Daily Whine & Shine - June 5, 2008
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our constant struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
So here we are. What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about something? Or so angry that you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Daily Whine & Shine, it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away. Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Today is Festival Of Popular Delusions Day.
Tomorrow is Teacher's Day and National Applesauce Cake Day and my sister's birthday!
June 7 is Do-Dah Day, National Chocolate Ice Cream Day.
June 8 is Write to Your Father Day, Abused Women and Children's Awareness Day, Name Your Poison Day, and Upsy Daisy Day.
June 9 is Donald Duck Day.
Food for thought:
Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false, and the false with the true. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Food for thought is just that. As I read this quotation by the man who championed civil rights, I had to wonder. I had to wonder if a man attended a church each Sunday for 20 years, a church where hate was spewed by the pastor, what would that do to a man's values and objectivity?

My husband built a gorgeous huge bookshelf that covers one of our living room walls.
Although he assured me that he knows how to cut and lay carpet, when he put the carpet back down that he had to roll out of the way when he was building the bookshelf, he cut it crooked, and he completely cut away the padding in front of the bookcase. So it looks like a ragged ditch in front of this beautiful bookcase. And he insists it will look fine once we put our furniture back!
Shine.......I'm relatively happy today. Not for any particular reason (OK, maybe because I'm dreaming of triple rewards here on Gather this week), just feeling happy and peaceful.
Oh and I'm very happy to hear about it being National Chocolate Ice Cream Day! This is a very good thing.
My shine is that my hubby doesn't have to do overtime today, so later we are going over to my moms so he can fix her kitchen faucet and then off to look at more homes for sale.
Shine-I really adore Chocolate Ice Cream
Your Food for Thought is right on the money and should give everyone something to ponder.
Smiles on your path my friend...
Shine--they may have fixed the A/C in our office--finally after years of not working.
But good news, my recent graduate daughter accepted a job at a great company for a substantial salary. One less worry on my mind.
Also grateful for another day to live and love. Keep well, all!
Whine: I am freezing my butt off in the office today and I'm even wearing a denim jacket. Would it kill them to turn the air up a degree or too?
Shine: I've been struggling with sleepiness for the last few weeks and this morning I am totally perky and I haven't had any sort of caffeinated anything! Yay me!
