Networking can help people in so many ways, in our network of friends we can find people who can help us in every little way they could. Stuffs like getting simple tasks done, to finding a job, meeting new friends, or even finding a romantic partner. For this reason, people are always interested to join social networking sites with the hope of helping people or getting help from them. There are quite a number of sites in the Internet where one can participate and create an online social network of friends. One thing that has made these networking sites popular is because the users can post links of various URLs that catches their interest and they are also using social bookmarking.
Here's a list of the top 4 social networking sites and some of the features it offers to its members:
- www.facebook.com – Here is my facebook profile - Facebook is a social network launched way back February 2004. It was founded by a student from Harvard University, Mark Zuckerberg. Unlike myspace, facebook does not allow their members to use html and css to personalize their profile. Hence the not so experts won't be left behind since all the profile layouts look the same. The fun part of facebook is in the interactive features which include the fun wall, poke, photo display and status chooser. There is no limit to the number of photos that you can upload with facebook. Just recently, facebook added a new exciting feature which is the instant messaging. There are also several games which the user may challenge their friends with.
- www.myspace.com – Myspace was basically inspired with the success of friendster that when it was created, it imitated some of the popular features that friendster had. Some of the features which users enjoy in myspace are the mood emoticons, blogs, and comments. Just like friendster, the user profile may be customized using html and css. There is also a bulletin, groups, instant messaging, TV, mobile, news, classified ads, and the recently launched karaoke.
- www.vox.com - Vox is a blog hosting and photo sharing site. It offers hundreds of designs for your blog, plus it integrates photo services of flickr and video services of youtube. It also has an audio feature for life's unforgettable moments that you may want to record.
- www.friendster.com – Friendster is a social network service which started operating way back in March 2002 and it gained popularity in the Asian region. It allows personalization of profile through html and css and users can also add music and video to their profile if they wish. There is a birthday reminder, bulletin, shoutout, testimonial/comment box, and just recently they have launched applications much similar to facebook which features mini games.
For teenagers, social networking may be an avenue to gain friends, but for professionals it may be an avenue not only to gain friends but also to promote their products.

I tried Facebook. I haven't really gotten into it that much.
I've heard of friendster but never done it.
I've never even heard of vox.
I enjoy Gather and myspace equally, but for entirely opposite reasons.
