Recently there was an article written asking what we as Americans would do if we got hit by a disaster like the one that hit China. There was the belief that people were to selfish and concerned with what's mine to help out if such a disaster struck. There were comparisons made with the response to Katrina. Yes the government dropped the ball. Unfortunately I think that when you count on the government too much you're going to be disappointed. H
Recently a tornado hit a town of Hugo here in MN 50 homes were destroyed and hundreds more were damaged. Within days a request went out for volunteers to help with the clean up on Sat 5/31. With days to spare the numbers were so large that the town asked people to quit volenteering. When Sat arrived over 1000 people had arrived to help with the clean up so residents could start rebuilding. By the end of the day over 90% of the debris had been cleaned up. Volunteers carried bags with them to collect personal items they came across in hopes of reuniting them with the owners.
This is what I think would happen if there was a disaster of scale that hit China happened here. There will always be thousands who will show up to help.

I find it horrifying that aid workers were barred from entering the China for a multitude of reasons, mainly a difference in governments. I could care less how they run their government(at least in a time of crisis). Let the people in who are willing to help their own country's victims.
This would not happen in the US, I'm grateful to live in a place where people are wiling to aid their fellow citizens and the government provides a place for that. The national guard and army can't do it all...
We live in a great country when it comes to helpping others. I know that I live in a great area where neighbors help neighbors everywhere around me. Its a great feeling to be able to help someone in need or just give them a hand, when something is a little much for the ones trying to do it all.
And thanks for posting to "News, Politics and the Economy"...
Many people want to be helping with China and the govt allow them too.
