The Towhees are active and noisy. They're also a lot less shy; I had another male and female pair hanging out around me and not flying away. In fact the female was hopping around and digging in the ground cover not three feet away from me at one point. Here's the female before she decided to do the floor crawl:

Down on the floor of the old quarry the annual Blue Flag patch has sprung up in the Quaking Aspen stand. For those who aren't up on their flowers, "Flag" is the older name for wild Iris. As far as shooting them goes, I started out wide angle and gradually moved in closer - a shot of the patch, a shot of one plant, and a down-the-throat macro shot of one bloom.



Last week I showed you the Red Clover growing in the meadow on the floor of the old quarry. This week I have a shot of the white clover for you:
