Garden County vs Redneck County
'This here's the tale of one yard and two distinctly different ideas about what a yard is for.'
When I married my husband I knew he was disorganized. My first clue was his apartment. There weren't messes; there were clean spots which loosely resembled stepping stones. This gauntlet had to be traversed, preferably in shoes, to get to the kitchen .
His defense? 'It's a theft deterrent system.'
No, I didn't buy it for an instant. No, I didn't figure I could fix him.
In my naive youth I figured he'd out grow it. Mature at some point and be 'less' disorganized. Ahem, I was marginally correct. He did and does posess qualities which more than make of for said disorganization, most of the time.
This here's the tale of one yard and two distinctly different ideas about what a yard is for.
My philosophy is that a yard and garden should flow from room to room; like a house.
Here's the Pond 'room'
. He contends the straw mulch detracts from the intrisic beauty.
I contend the straw, while not as attractive as bark is a minor distraction compared to what is next to it.
The 'shop'.
There was never any question who would preside over the shop. It is by design, "Man Space".
I have dubbed it, "Redneck County"
This is only the beginning of the adventure.

This is our lovely home as seen from Redneck County.
And this is what is opposite Redneck County.
If you were turn to your right there is a 'natural' space, which is uncultivated.
Be assured, Garden County is in much better shape than Redneck County, even at the height of weed season which we are in the middle of now. Are you ready to turn around?
Step around the Bridal Shower Spirea. That's it.
You've got on sturdy footwear?
It's not safe out here. Full combat gear is recommended. The faint of heart can hang here by the Spirea.
The rest of you follow me.
Here is the skeletal remains of a Ford Escort. It was supposed to be part of the First Annual Redneck County car climb. Four wheel drive vehicle required. The truck on the other side still runs, barely.
Parts of the Big Bronco he was driving when the Escort died are in the first and second photos. The box is there by the Escort.
We're moving deep into enemy territory now. The Bronco II body was hanging from the RV port. Heavy snows set the Bronco body free of its ties. It seems to like it here.
You think I took advantage of a bad angle? Fair enough here's a different view.

So much for the bad angle theory.

We've been discussing the possibility of moving. The Commissioner of Redneck County asked the Supreme Commander of Garden County how 'we' were going to handle the shop. SC of GC was intrigued as to why she was being asked.

It is curious that he chose to ask your opinion on the matter. I have a similar battle with surfaces in the house. Any open space is immediately deemed, "new place to put other stuff".
Love the title btw ;)
I used to have a gorgeous wedding-lace spirea (or that's what we called them. Are they really bridal shower? Prolly...) at my previous residence. The effers that bought my house pulled it out with a truck. My beautiful landscaping has all been destroyed and my house now looks like a dump. My dad refused to let me go look at it when I went to visit. He said it would make me cry. I cried when they pulverized my iris and lily bed. No telling what they did to the place now. Wish you could put in provisions with the deed of sale. The new owner will NOT destroy beautiful plants because they are hard to mow around. I won't even go into what they did to the redbud trees. *sobbing!!!
I like the Garden County side. Maybe the SC of the Garden County might get some of those fast growing trees and create a protective line of trees--to protect all eyes from the RC.
Cute article, Wendy.
Sia, you nailed it! He needs my organized mind to give him a plan. I refuse to do much except rescue tools.
Jamie, what I have is Bridal Shower spirea. The reddish bush next to it is also a spirea, though the name escapes me. Bridal Lace Spiea has different flowers. The stamens are more pronounced and causes a lacey effect, thus the name. Very pretty.
If we move, the yard is theirs. I've left yards before and it's hard when the new owner has a different vision. I refuse to think about it. ( : 0 l
Paul you have no idea. rofl
The photos are quite telling.

Your garden spaces are really lovely!
Pat the computer debris is in the attic, basment and his room. smile I have to agree an acre can be a lot of work. I'm glad you enjoyed Garden County.. wait until more blooms. grin.
Thanks Dan.. we enjoy it.
Sadly, jasmine isn't zone hardy to where we live. It would be a great choice otherwise.
And I like to think the straw adds character.. it sure is a lot cheaper than bark.
