I hit the jackpot at the post office yesterday. My meds finally arrived except for the heart medicine, and I got an e-mail that it has been shipped. And all seven books came that I had ordered from Amazon with the generous gift certificate my son gave me for Mother's Day. They include two new books I heard about on BookTV - "Common Wealth - Economics for a crowded planet" by Jeffrey D. Sachs, and "The Post-American World", By Fareed Zakaria who often appears on the Sunday morning political shows. I also got Barack Obama's first book, "Dreams of My Father". I want to know more about his mother and grandparents, and his childhood and education. There are a lot of mistaken rumors going around and I want to know the truth.
I read very slowly these days because of growing cataracts, failing eyesight, and outdated eyeglasses, so it will take a lot of time to read my new books. Maybe I will unfold my chaise lounge and read outside when the temperature rises a little. According to the local morning news it is only 35 degrees down in Campo this morning about 14 miles away as the crow flies, so I think it is in the 40s here. That is too cold to sit outside and also too cold for snakes, gophers, and ground squirrels to be wandering about yet, so I let my adventurous boy-cats out early. There are still four big horse rigs camping not far from me accompanied mostly by women and dogs. Smokey will see to it that the dogs don't chase my cats. There are a lot of high places in our little grove of oaks for my cats to find safety.
I did my laundry yesterday and accidentally scooped up some towels another woman had put in a dryer as soon as I took my clothes out of it. I forgot all about her when I took my clothes out of the dryers. I found out about my petty theft later in the day when I took my collection of cans, plastic and bottles to the recycle place down the road. Another couple had brought stuff to recycle and they helped me unload mine. (I was paid $25 for what I had collected in about an hour from what campers left on two weekends.) While talking to them I mentioned that I had done my wash at the Live Oak Springs laundromat that morning. They asked me if I happened to know anything about some missing towels. I had already taken my clothes home and hung up the heavy items to finish drying, and I did notice some unfamiliar little towels, but I thought they were from a bag of stuff Daniel had given me some months ago. I had thrown the bag into the shed and only yesterday remembered to include it in my wash. It's a small world around here. Everybody knows everybody else, and the folks I met at the recycle place already knew about the missing towels. So when I got home again, I had to make another trip back to the village to take the towels back to the owner. I'm afraid I made off with the towels because I'm getting too old to be let out alone.
The lady from the laundromat and her husband, work at the Live Oak Spring Resort, and they seem like very pleasant people. They have a dog - a HUGE Rottweiler that weighs over 200 lbs. and is as tall as a St. Bernard. Lucky for me he liked me.
Well, back to today's news. A crane collapsed in New York and killed people; the Chinese are trying to control water that was accidentally dammed up by the earthquake and are still dragging bodies out of rubble; and the military leader in Burma is still resisting foreign help after three weeks.
The sun is up and things are peaceful here. What is happening in your neck of the woods?

Glad that you are having a good day and received some good books. I like to read outside myself and I know what you mean about your dogs chasing others - mine are very territorial even Loquita the chihuahua - she is very protective of our Beanie who is with us up here. Well have a good day - I'll check on you later. Take care.
Salud.
I'd like to know more about Barak Obama also. In all my days of going to mass every day for 12 solid years, and then on into adulthood, I never saw a priest get up and behave like a fool the way this newest preacher did that the news is blasting. I almost wonder was he trying to ruin Barak on purpose. I have to question who is running Obama's campaign and isn't someone assigned to check people out. This is one time I do hope the Pope clamps down on this priest and sends him to the cruddiest, most isolated Catholic corner of the world where no one is there to speak to to give any opinion about anything. He disgraced his calling. Again Obama is faced with the "with friends like this you don't need enemies" dilemma. And I am sad for that.
$25.00 is pretty darned good for scrapping. Maybe litter can be good for something.
It's also unseasonably cold here and I'm over it. I like to sit on my balcony and read. I've been working on planting my container garden and I'm going today to pick up plants to fill in between the vegetables. Last year it was like my little garden and it was very pretty and calming. Hopefully I'll be able to be back out there soon.
Have a good day.
Blessings.
Katie - Thanks for stopping by. I have always loved camping too, and I like primitive camping best - a tent wass all the roof I needed, and I often slept out under the stars. It depended on how likely bears or snakes were apt to be prowling around.
Sharon - Yes, I was pleased with the $25 from recycling. It will buy half a tank of gas or take me out to eat. I was going to have a real garden, but have decided to just do some tomato plants , lettuce, and pepper plants in containers. he ground is awfully hard to dig up, and there are hordes of gophers and rabbits so I would have to put up a fence even under the garden. I found two tree containers that will do nicely for my tomatoes.
Mostly I've been running around to hospitals and nusing homes. My sister broker her leg. Her husband comes home from respite care tomorrow, when i go get him. Another old friend, the last of my father's relations, fell and broke a bone in her back. So she is in hospital. Not a great time of year for it.
Other than that Robert and I and all our critters are doing fine.
Look at the difference between his organization and Hillary's. Like amateur and professional.
I went to Amazon in preparation for my monthly book order next week. I researched several books including one called How to Read Like a Writer which was recommended by a writing friend of mine. I also got some "summer read" pocket books all ready on my wish list to just place the order when my SS check comes.
It's warmed up here, finally, and we planted our heirloom tomato plants in big tubs on the patio. We really had to scrounge to find any sunny spots in our yard. We have too many trees.
Gotta go, I've been on line most of the day reading stuff and my neck and back are sore.
Thanks for posting this to My Home Town.
