Lycoris squamigera which is believed to have originated in China or perhaps Japan, . is a herbaceous plant with basal, simple leaves thatare not present when the flowers emerge from the ground..about a month after the leaves die. Don't cut them or you won't get shoots! The flowers are white or pink and oh so very fragrant. The flowers spring dramatically from the ground in mid to late summer; it usually takes only four to five days from first emergence to full bloom. This suddenness is reflected in its many common names: Surprise Lily, Magic Lily, and the favorite one of mine the Resurrection Lilly. It is also sometimes referred to as Naked Lady. trumpet-shaped Pinkish lavender blooms make a real show when it magically appears in late summer!! It is nicknamed Naked Lady and Surprise Lily because the flowers appear on sturdy, leafless stems in late summer, after the leaves have withered and
disappeared. They look great as companions for Hostas, when the foliage is planted in the background. the clusters of flowers are as fragrant as Jasmine in my mind. Cut they last over a week and scent the home wonderfuly.. Bulbs resent being disturbed and may take a season before they bloom in their new home. These will be in my new garden in West Frankford Illinois. I can't plant them until fall so this year I will need to buy a potted one or four!

they are from the Amarilis family

as are agapanthus of which I am bringing many bulbs! I love them also though they are not as fragerent!! I have several trumpet tree seeds I am going to try and grow from seed! as well as of course a small tree being shipped

now I have a piec
e rooted off this mother plant (Hoya compacta [rope

It will have to live inside in the winter as the trumpet will too untill its about four years old
I have decided to go with Greek oregeno as a ground cover it will stay green to -20 and peek through the snow!!!
