Daily Whine & Shine - May 29, 2008
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our constant struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
So here we are. What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about something? Or so angry that you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Daily Whine & Shine, it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away. Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Today is International Day of UN Peacekeepers Day
Tomorrow is Hug Your Cat Day, Memorial Day (actual), Water a Flower Day
May 31 is National Macaroon Day, What You Think Upon Grows Day

When I got up this morning, the phones still didn't work and our DSL wasn't working either. I called the phone company and the earliest they could have someone here was between 12:30 and 4:30. Thankfully, the man came at exactly 12:30.
It turned out that we had a short - because one of our phone lines had broken. Weird. Especially since it was on the new phone I bought when I tried working for 1800flowers. Even more strange since the headset had also been chewed (or something). It makes you think that maybe the phone was defective from the start and I just didn't notice.
But...we also had a lamp cord chewed the other day - the plug was completely chewed off. We assumed that was the puppy's doing.
But...the pup cannot get back where this phone line was and had no access to the headset.
Besides, when the puppy isn't at my side, he's usually sleeping soundly somewhere.
So...we're now thinking that the cats have been chewing power and phone lines. They were the only ones in the bedroom I was using for the 1800flowers job. They also like to lie on the table where the lamp was that got chewed.
Hmmm.
Anyway, the phones are working now. And my computer connection too. That's good.
That was a great quote and so true.
The day is gray here and everyone is feeling a little listless. Hubby has to do overtime tonight and I'm just doing laundry and "playing" on the computer.
This is my last day of vacation. Bummers! I just hate work any more. It hurts to work. Other than that it's fine. But I'm quickly starting to hate going when I'm in so much pain by the end of the night. I've had a radiofrequency nerve ablation and still have pain.
The good news is that we went to my sister's SSI hearing on Tuesday and she won the case. She'll be getting some help in about six weeks. It's been like two and a half years since we filed for disability. I've been paying for her utilities, meds, phone, bus fare, laundry, etc. Now it looks like I'll be able to recoup some of that money.
Shine - I started out teh day with 100 bucks in my pocket. So, I took my SIL out to I-Hop for breakfast.
Now today, yes I will whine.
I woke up to hearing my dog bark as if on attack, to find that he had bitten my husbands hand down to the bone. The dog was disoriented (he's 13, doesn't see well and seems to have dementia at times) and my husband grabbed his collar to ease him to the back door to go out and the dog grabbed him and wouldn't let go. The dog is a siberian huskey, and they have some very very sharp teeth. Needless to say, hubby had to go to the dr. for a tetnus shot, didn't have a stitch as the dr. told him to let it bleed out (it's on his knuckle the deepest one) and is in such pain he went to lie down now. We usually share the house responsibilities, so I had to do all today, even though we are expecting rain and my back (I have arthritis in my spine) and hands are killing me. The kittens were driving me crazy, so they went into the garage even though it's 86 degrees out here because they kept antagonizing the queen cat and the dog (bad idea) while I made my teen son his two pounds of taco meat (should last him till the weekend, lol) and 49 meatballs with the meat I purchased on sale yesterday and had to use or lose.
Now that I finished that whine, I'm drinking my regular wine as I hurt and am not happy.
We sit down with a representative at SS and figure out how much they're going to give her. Five thousand goes to the lawyer right off the top. I filed the first claim for her and also the appeal to the first rejection. But when we got the second denial I went and got her a lawyer who specializes in SS cases.
Anywho, I'm happy that it's finally over. I wish we could have gotten this taken care of when mom ws still alive so she wouldn't have worried. But ......
Yeah, today it's not fun to be us, lol. Oh, and don't worry about the kittens, the garage door is open of course so it's not stifling. It's just they prefer the house or the back yard and it's just not doable for me today.
Shine: Tomorrow may or may not be worse. That's as bright as I can get right now.
Katie, what a shame about the dog and your hubby. Do dogs get Alzheimer's? Just wondered, 'cause humans often go through an angry stage with that.
Sorry your day was so bad Katie. I hope you feel better tomorrow. You and your husband might want to make a habit of talking to your dog before approaching and touching him to make sure he recognizes you. It's my understanding this type of behavior is an instinctive defense mechanism that can't be helped but it can be very dangerous to anyone around them. Hope your husbands hand heels fast.
Lera, I'm glad your sister was approved.
Haha...it was a beautiful day in Michigan too Debbie.
by sending a 10 your way!
