Washington, DC-In tennis, point-winning backhand shots can be delivered just as effectively from wheelchairs as they can by able-bodied players.
Throughout its 62-year history of service to our nation's wounded service members, Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) has dedicated its resources to enhancing their quality of life. Because sporting activities help disabled veterans and their families thrive, Paralyzed Veterans will sponsor the upcoming Jana Hunsaker Memorial Wheelchair Tennis Tournament.
"We are pleased to cosponsor the Jana Hunsaker Memorial event," said Randy L. Pleva, Sr., Paralyzed Veterans national president. "Our organization knows firsthand that sports and recreational activities provide all members of the disability community with a sense of achievement and togetherness."
Now in its eighth year, the Jana Hunsaker Memorial Wheelchair Tennis Tournament will be held June 5-8, 2008, at the prestigious U.S. Tennis Association Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY. The tournament offers $8,000 in prize money. Organizers will showcase a wheelchair tennis demonstration and a children's clinic.
