THE SEVEN DEADLY CONTROVERSIES

Sin or controversy?  These days one man's sin is another's pleasure.  That's the nature of a controversy.  Listed below is my version of today's seven most controversial issues as popularized by the mass media.  Some of these seven you will agree with, others you will oppose, on still others you will be neutral.  And that, too, is the nature of controversy.

There are many other issues that could be listed as controversial.  As a matter of fact there is hardly any subject about which everyone is in agreement.  I can't think of a single one.  You may have issues that you feel are more important than some I have listed, others would disagree with you.  And that, too, is the nature of controversy.

The purpose of this article is not to debate the relative merits of any of these issues, but merely to list them and bring them out into the open.  Please feel free to delete any of my choices you feel are not worthy of inclusion in the top seven, and name any you believe should be included

Here is my list, in alphabetical order:

1.     Abortion     An absolute right, or a sin?

2.     Capital punishment  (the death penalty)     Sanctioned by God?

3.     Evolution vs Creation     Could both be right?

4.     Gun control     Should everyone or no one have guns?

5.     Marijuana legalization     A step in the wrong direction?

6.     Religion in school     Must religion be controversial?

7.     Same sex marriage     Individual right or social breakdown?

What would it take to resolve these issues?  Should they be resolved at all, and if so by whom?  Could a consensus among the religions do it?  Or the local government?  Or the national government?  The United Nations perhaps?  Or should the individual have the right to make his or her own decisions?  The answers to these questions are not without controversy.
