This is Amanda Pirtle, one that I was interested in her story. She married Thomas Warren at 14, had my Grandfather at 15 in 1885, then divorced Warren. I wish I had a better photo of her. Her eyes and brow shape are just exactly like my Dad's.
This guy's name is Ambrose Pirtle. He's so intellectual looking I think he makes a good ancestor. He may be Amanda's Uncle or possibly Father or Grandfather.
These are her parents, James and Martha:Thank you for the help, Kate. I just thought you might like to see some of the faces.

I bet D I V O R C E was a major topic back then too!!
The oldest ones I have are of my mom and dad before they were married.
I've seen no photos of mine. I think all the evidence of their existence was probably accidentally lost or destroyed in some drunken family event way back at the turn of the last century. It's the Irish in us.
It isd wonderful to connect some images to one's ancestors.
Yep, we went to the courthouse in Saline County and read the actual divorce decree. Back then they had to be very specific about why they wanted a divorce. She said this man had beaten her repeatedly and that she fled for her parents' home when he attacked the baby (my Grandfather), breaking two ribs by kicked him, and that he was living in Howard County part of the time as man and wife with another woman. So he was a real jerk. She remarried about a year after the divorce and had 5 or 6 more children. She died at 47.
