I remember as a child, sittng down in front of the TV with my family to watch Martin & Rowan's Laugh-in. The show ran from 1968 to 1973, and was the launching point to some of the best comic talents ever! That show had some of the best characters on it, and we used to all pile up in front of the TV and just crack up laughing. Some of the humor was a little risque' and over our heads, but we loved it anyway. The show featured stars like Goldie Hawn, who played a ditzy blonde, Lily Tomlin with her character portrayals of people like "Ernestine" the telephone operator.. "a-one ringy=dingy, two ringey dingey[s".. LOL and the precocious "Edith Ann' ..along with Arte Johnson, Ruth Buzzi, Gary Owens as the announcer, and Flip Wilson..who would dress up like "Geraldine" and talk about her boyfriend "Killer".. These characters along with other regulars and a slew of guest stars came into our homes every week, and many of them are still fresh in my mind after 35 years.. Dan Rowan, who died in 1987, and Dick Martin are the guys who made it possible for all of these people to get their starts.. and provided the rest of us with years and years of fun and laughter. He also went on to direct episodes of Newhart, Archie Bunker's Place and and Family Ties.
It's funny that in the youtube clip, they talk about gun control issues.. the more things change, the more they stay the same
