Hello from GatherWriMo! It's been a while since I did a writing prompt; it's been a very busy several months, what can I say? I'm going to be co-moderating for 'In Character - A Character Development Community' from now on, so I thought it would be an excellent time to get back into the writing prompt groove.
There are many common tropes used in fiction, whether in books, television, movies, or video games; many of them exist mostly to make things a bit easier for the hero, or to let the audience know what's coming before the would-be heroes figure things out, or simply to meet the expectations of the audience regardless of how realistic it is in reality. With this in mind, choose a famous trope and write a brief story in which characters attempt to justify this trope within their continuity.
(For more information on tropes, including specific examples of them and of their various sources, check out TVTropes.org. For the counterargument of what you shouldn't do, check out The Evil Overlord Devises a Plot.)
