Recently, I had the opportunity to observe Blue Jays at their best. These birds can be very territorial and they watch their nest like hawks, chasing away would be threats. I can not tell you how many squirrels got ran off from the tree we found the nest in.
Just to the left of our back porch, we noticed a couple of Jays building a nest in a nearby tree a while back.
(the nest is located on the first branch of the left side of the tree)

It wasn't long before I noticed the birds protecting the area. They would not get very far from the nest and I heard little "peeps". My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to mount a ladder and take a peek. This is the sight I was greeted with:

Carefully as to not touch the nest, I snapped the photo as the parent Jay watched me from a branch above.

While the other parent sat on the fence making a horrendous noise:

As the days progressed, I witnessed the progression of the babies.

All too soon, the little ones became sure of themselves

and left the nest. Leaving behind only fleeting memories and an empty nest.
This little experience made me reflect on my feelings and thoughts when my own daughter left the nest. All to soon, she too left to build a life of her own. Now, she has twin daughters of her own. As for me, well I am blessed with twin granddaughters and memories of a little girl who became a wonderful mother and woman, yet remains a beautiful daughter.

I can relate to children leaving since mine are grown and have left home. Sometimes the reflection can be down right sad, when you realize that they are actually gone. But oh those grandchildren make up for it! The grands are great!!!
We had a Robin build a nest in a bush right next to our front porch last year, unfortunatley she didn't pick a very secure spot and a bad thunderstorm knocked the nest out of the tree and broke the eggs. I felt so sad for her. :(
Thanks for coming by :)
Jo, you said it so well when you said, "May they soar high and love greatly!" That's what we all wish for our children, isn't it? I am glad you were able to relate to this. Thank you & you're welcome :)
