It has come to this!! Going to work may cost more than anyone makes. I was on a flight to Phoneix and the planes are slowing down the speed to save money. My friend use her frequent flyer points to pay for the ticket. Drivers are doing the same thing. Car pool to work and school. When milk and bread cost more that an hourly wage, we do have to reset our budget. The stores are giving you a wake up call to start ordering on line. No tax and no gas to pay in the mall. When we first got married we had what we called Mac and Cheese days. Little money to pay for dinner! Now we are in the French Toast days, I used to give this to our sons for dinner it was like having a free meal, since we already had milk, eggs and bread on hand. Our sons who didn't understand why we "Had" to have breakfast for dinner are now serving that to their own families dinner. Even that is not cheap any more . What can we do to help everyone after our "gift " from the Government, is spent? Stay home and read, walk to the playground for fun, Church for hope and to go to the library to read books for free. Use coupons more, share meals with neighbors , get a goat to mow the lawn (OK I am kidding), and take showers together (I am Not kidding). Get movie DVD from friends and share them. Use old comic strips to wrap hand made gifts. Use less air conditioning, sweep and not vacuum, send e-mail instead of snail mail and read news on line to keep paper and ink out of the environment. Use The Freecycle Network, give away what you don't use any more and get something your need for free. A little work on our part will save some pennies here and there. May be enough to turn on the air on really hot days, to buy the book you would like to keep and even to have meat for dinner! It will take a long time before we can take our car father than work and spend the day at the ball park. We are in this together, and only as a group can we help each other and help ourselves. Please share your ideas with me and I will pass them on. Some of my friends are growing fruits and vegetables and then canning them. Others are knitting blankets to share with others and still others are volunteering their time and services to help out hospitals and senior centers. Thank again! Carolee |

I often did "breakfast suppers" for my son and me when I was a single mom. My ways of cutting back are not running all over town to shop. We alternate grocery stores every week, so that we can stock up on sale items. We always eat our leftovers and don't throw food away.
Instead of a high priced gift bag, I purchased a cloth bag on sale for $1.00. Not only was it much cheaper, but it can be reused. We have cut back tremendously on our gift purchases and try to add homemade items.
