Last year, I decided to read the book I Am Legend before watching the movie. I never got to see the movie while it was in theaters, but I did just recently rent it now that the DVD has been released. I thought it was still kind of a neat movie, but it was hardly anything like the book upon which it was based. I know people who are huge fans of the book and they really hated how much was changed in this movie.
This movie is about a virus that wipes out most of mankind and only one human being (played by Will Smith) is left alive and living in New York City. He's a scientist working on a cure for the virus while spending every night hoping the vampires don't find out where he lives.
In the book, the vampires were intelligent creatures who spoke and thought. In this movie, they just run around screaming like zombies. They are also done entirely in CGI, and the effects don't look real enough for them to be scary. Worst of all, the ending of the movie is completely different from the ending of the book, thus destroying pretty much the entire point of the story!
In the end, I suggest reading the book and skipping the movie.

The movie was lame. I was very disappointed.
