Family Members Killed in a Fire This Week

My husband's first cousin and her three kids were killed in a fire early Monday morning in the Rochester, New York area.

I look at the faces of family I've never met
and now will never get to meet.
What were your hopes and dreams?
I try to think about what they would say
I can't.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.
I don't know why you're gone and we're still here.

Two daughter's and one boy
their mother's pride and joy
All were on their way to leaving the nest soon.

No longer little birdies
waiting to fly away
but souls at peace in heaven I pray
a Mother and her children
soaring together
forever

We've been watching coverage of this all week with their town being one of the 'suburbs' here. Such a terrible tragedy. With all the news stories about what happened, I've learned a lot about them and it's almost as if we know the family now. A shame they didn't get out, but there were no smoke detectors in their apartment. The fire started from an electrical malfunction in their kitchen next to the stove. The other 12 people who lived in the building manged to escape. Express our sympathy to your husband for his loss.

That is such a sad story. I had one of my friends and his wife burn to death the night he came home from Veterans hospital, finally well and able to come home. But not even to last through the night.

I am so terrible sorry to hear about you and your families loss Anne Marie. Lives snuffed out and ended before their time .It is indeed a tragedy .

Your article is the first I have read this morning and I am in shock. If I am in shock about this news, I just can't imagine how you, your husband and his family must be feeling. I am so very sorry, Anne Marie. The loss of your husband's cousin and children is indeed a terrible tragedy. Your poem is a very touching tribute to them. I hope writing it brought you some comfort, as I am sure it brought some to the souls of this mother and her children.
