For the past several years, a doe has had her newborn babies just outside my bedroom window. I sit at my desk and am on the computer a lot, so I have a great view out that window and can watch all of the backyard excitement!

The woods come right up to the back corner of the house, and every year a doe has her babies here, so I am assuming that it is the chosen birthing spot for this same mama each year.
Two years ago she had twins and last year it was triplets! She spent much of the day yesterday grazing just outside the window and as I watched I could see the movement in her belly of the baby. Her milk has come in and her udder is hanging low. Today she is nowhere to be seen.
In the past she has stayed very close to the backyard, and stamps and snorts at anything that comes too close. It has taken several weeks before the new little one/ones appear and frolic in the grass.

There is a little creek that runs through the woods ( this shot was taken through the glass in my bedroom window) So the mom does not have to travel for a drink of water.

Twice I have been lucky enough to watch her teaching them how to 'startle'. Everyone will be happily playing or eating grass when suddenly mom jumps and runs a short distance. The young fawns just stop and watch. Then she comes back and repeats the jump and run act several times. The youngsters are fast learners and before long when mom startles, so do the babies and they all quickly follow where she leads. She is a patient teacher.
I don't have any great photos of the babies- maybe I'll be luckier this year!

I hope you get some pics of the babies this year.
I have a Robin's nest under my terrace and I took pics of her feeding the babies. I will post them soon. I need time to download.
2. This says a lot about you and where you live. You must maintain a fairly serene environment for her to repeatedly want to nest there.
How exciting to be so close to nature!
Thanks so much for posting this to

Thanks for posting this to All Photo Essays Here!!
The daisies are blooming in our meadow here,
so I know it is time for fawns hiding in the high grass.
Great photo of the little baby deer sticking his head out of the bushes!
BTW, loved your bedroom too, everything looked so serene, no wonder you have a visitor like a deer about to have foals.
