A little room to breathe
Away from the madcap
voices and activities of
of a morning filled with
laughter and ideas, I
sought the quiet of the
woodland forest. Slipping
quietly out the classroom
door across the playground
of the young, I take the
path through the fence,
under the pine boughs.
The air is clean and crisp
from the recent early
morning rain and I am
filled with a faint and
distant melody not sung
by any bird. I sat on the
earth as on a raft listening
to the music of a shoemaker
making velvet slippers
for a lady fair.

As you can see, it excites me each spring to walk in the forest and find that the Shoemaker has been busy crafting lady slippers for me. For deep within the soil, hidden under a blanket of snow, there is life just waiting for the warmth of the sun's rays.

It is there for all...all you have to do is to look closely as you stroll in the forest. I just love lady slippers...such a treat for the eye.
I do not live quite SO close to the forest, living in a suburb closer to the big town...

I have never seen one of these in the wild.
For deep within the soil - there is life just waiting for the sun's rays -- that puts me in mind of how deep within us there is our life's passion - just waiting....for us to water and nurture it - so it can grow.
You are an inspiration in our daily lives - thank you!

Sweet song and snapshots.
I could hear the words sung much like a merry madrigal
earth as on a raft listening.' Fantastic!
I loved the raft visual best, riding on the tides of the planet, as it were.
However, each line spoke to me, sweetly.
My favorite story, as a child, was of the cobbler and his elves. My very fav.
EE you show awesome beauty each time you write, whether it be nature itself, or the children's spirits. Always, always worthy.

Take a walk in the woods...Carver woods are just filled with these little flowers despite them being endangered in the state of Massachusetts.
A merry madrigal it tis'.
Did not the Creator know that we humans needed slippers!
I too, loved the story of the Shoemaker and the Shoes. Thank you for your kind words.
As I get older, I seem to be sitting on that raft more often then not!
