He moved in about a month ago, she had been there for a few years already. She belonged to a nice large family with five children, two dogs, three cats and both parents busy working a job. She adored this family and was always available to help reach those higher places little persons, even adults, had trouble getting to. The kids kept her well-oiled, polished and free of splinters or water damage, her wood was the strongest and could hold up to 200lbs. She stood proudly at the edge of the cement floor and brick driveway, right inside the luscious place she called home, the indoor garage.
He had been staring out of his cage at the pet store whose owner took him in off the streets about a week ago. He was kicked out of the slum he was occupying space at because he had failed to manifest the last two months of rent. He skipped around town for awhile being happy he was free of some shackle society places on renters. He was homeless now, he had a purpose. What it was he had no clue so he decided to visit some of his buddies. After listening to their friends plea, all they could say was "hey man, were sorry but we do not have the 'extra' room."
A small patch of grass near the vegetable garden, a tree limb in the backyard to hold a tire-swing, maybe an old blanket tossed away in the shed--all these elements of a loving family-unit sometimes denied by the power in the lack of the mighty dollar. Here he was too with no money, no place to stay, only dreams that were lived 100 yesterdays, ago. He saw a dumpster up ahead after trotting along for the last few hours avoiding hunger pains. A few more days of this he thought and it would be true that his species does not survive long, especially in the jungles of downtown San Forensic Chicago.
Out in suburbia the buzz of the automatic garage-door opener went off and woke her from a deep rest. She had not been pulled from her spot for some time as the need to reach for things in higher places, was not requiring her assistance. As the garage-door made its final tweak rolling up into the chamber, she heard an unfamiliar squeak followed by a wailing as a long tail followed by a long body fell in front of the driveway apron, right out of the dumpster attached to the garbage truck. She turned one of the rivets in her right leg just a tweak resembling a smile those humans make when a tickling sensation overcomes them.
This thing, she was not sure what to call it yet, had latched itself onto the edge and flung inside this trash receptacle suddenly realizing the people dumping this thing, forgot to let it go. It was riding with the truck and so was our friend, till now. The free ride was over and little did he know that the street he would see the end of days lived out on in harmony, was turning right into the apron of this driveway. This was the beginning of a coupling of two unusual elements realizing an emotion known as 'love' . . .
What is the 'she' referred to in this story? And do you want more ?
