I have enjoyed this since I was a child. It is known in the military as 'SOS'. But I don't need to worry about that since I was never military. Mike loves this, but of course he loves food and gravy in general. It does not matter what I serve, but if I wanted to guarantee his love for it, I'd make sure there was gravy. Most of my children like this as well.
We served a good bit of it when we had the restaurant and put this on the breakfast buffet. It's easy to fix and very economical to serve.
Chipped beef is sort of salty and is air dried to preserve it. Mixed with the other ingredients, one does not have to add much salt to it.
Chipped Beef Gravy
One package of air dried chipped beef
2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
2 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
salt & pepper is needed
Melt butter in large heavy skillet. Cut chipped beef with kitchen shears or knife into small slivers. Put chipped beef in melted butter and stir to coat. Add flour and stir well, it's ok to brown the flour slightly. Add milk stirring over medium heat until thickened. Can be served over biscuits or toast. Some of us like it over scrambled eggs.

Dorine, I don't totally agree about the hamburger, I can think of several good ways to use hamburger. Sloppy Joes, Meatloaf, Salisbury steak, Meatballs, hamburgers, spaghetti sauce. I know you like these, right?
