This morning I ran across Ms. M's article on retirement http://jdmeacham.gather.com/ and I must say she paints a sobering view. I am beginning to think we baby-boomers from the last years of that era (early 1960's) won't be able to retire. I look at what my portfolio looks like and how it seems to slowly be dwindling and I find Meacham really has hit the nail on the head.
I have thought about robbing my 401k just to get out of debt. That is sad to say, but true.
No longer can we rely on our jobs to support us with a pension, or even a job into the twilight years for that matter. The economic woes our country is suffering these days, well, we'd be better off selling cabbages by the road, if you get my meaning. Nothing is safe, nor sacred it seems.
Some days I just wish someone would write it all out, the entire "here's what you need to do to be able to retire at 68 or 72 or whatever the retirement age is" article.

I'm quite a bit older than you. Will be 63 this fall.
