Let's Get Ready to Rumble...proclaimed the announcer
After a boxing match style introduction, they came out ready to duke it out.. fierce competitors.. enemies.. about to do voice to voice combat ...ummm..wait, they're kissing up to each other and making nice..what's up with that? lol Both of the David's were gracious and appreciative of the other's talent, telling each other how awesome they are.. isn't that sweet!. Of course they can be sweet to each other.. it's a good-natured rivalry between friends. Besides..they both realize it doesn't matter which one wins.. they'll both get a contract, and they'll both go on to be successful and loved by the masses. The celebs who were brought in to work with them were Clive Davis and Andrew Lloyd Webber. ALW still couldn't get Archie to open his dang eyes when he sings. .
They both got to sing three songs, and David Cook got to go first, because David A won the coin toss.
Song 1 "I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking For".. a U2 classic.. I knew when I heard this would be the song it was gonna be spectacular!!!. This is a perfect song for him.. and he was a rock star!! prowling the stage and making his way to the judges platform to stand on the edge and look out over the audience. Randy said it was hot.. Paula gushed..she loved it!! .. and Simon said it was..phenomenol..score 1 for David Cook.
Song 2 Dream Big.. Another rocker ..he played his guitar and sang with power and a rock edge. A glimpse into the future of what we can expect from him when he is playing to packed houses and being a rock and roll God. ok, maybe not a God.. but it could happen. He was truly, as Randy said, "singing his face off". Paula loved it.. Simon said it was a "bit of a lightweight". I think it was the song he had an issue with..as Randy said, the song choice was just okay, but he really worked it and made it great. I think Simon was just not appreciating the song ..and not giving him props for what he did with it.
Song 3 His final song was "The World I know" by.Collective Soul. .I love the song and I knew it would be amazing.. the crowd went wild.. he was choked up with emotion. Randy loved it. Paula was on her feet applauding. Simon said he was one of the nicest, most sincere contestants they've had. He said it was a wrong song choice. He should have redone "Billy Jean' or "Hello".. and copped out like David A. did. I disagree. What did it matter anyway, since Simon already handed round 1 and 2 to David A.
David Archuletta
Song 1 "Don't let the Sun Go Down on Me".. this is one of my favorite Elton John songs, and I knew David A would do very well with this song. Another great choice.. it fit him well. He sang with emotion and power. A dynamic performance. The audience went crazy.. Randy said it was molten hot! paula said he gave her chills.. she gushed again. ..on and on.. Simon said it was arguably the best performance he's done so far. He said round 1 goes to Archuletta. I disagreed. It was a great performance.. he really sounded great. but I, personally, thought David Cook was better. Maybe I;'m biased, because he's my favorite, but I thought he was just better.
Song 2 He chose "In This Moment" by Ryan Gilmore .. another mellow, ballad-type song.. he really sounded great on this one, too. Another powerful delivery. I figured out while watching him sing during this song something that bugs me about him..he must have some kind of nasal problem or asthma or something.. he always sounds sniffly. All three of the judges loved it.. and Simon gave him Round 2 also. I don't know.. I'm on the fence on who was better this round. It's hard to compare when one is singing rocker songs and one is doing ballads. Both of them have great voices and lots of talent, so it's hard to compare and really judge who is "better".
David A. won the coin toss and he chose to go second, and I think that was the smart choice. I think when one person sings a song, and even if it's great, the next person comes on and sings a song, and all the audience and the judges remember is the last thing they heard.. they forget how good the first one really was, because the thing they just heard is really great too, and it's freshest in their memory..
Song 3 David A chose as his final song John Lennon's "Imagine". again.. he chose to re-do a song he previously performed. The song was his most memorable of the season, and he really killed with it the first time. So, hoping to recreate that magic, he decided to try it again. Chickensh*t copout if ya ask me.. LMAO. .Again with the squinting. People went crazy. Randy said he was the best singer. Paula said he left her speechless. and Simon said.. it was a knockout.. so, round 3 to David A, according to the judges.
I think Round 1 went to David Cook, Round 2 was just about a tie, but if I had to give it to one of them, I'd give it to David Cook, just because I like him better, and Round 3 went to David A., but not by much, even though he should lose points for doing a repeat song....
After tonight, it's really hard to say who will be the winner. I know that David Cook has been ahead in popularity all along, and he really should win.. I want him to win.. he deserves to win. and I believe that he will win... but David A's little fans could be sitting there psychotically dialing for 4 hours and could accidentally edge him out. It's a good sign that I've been trying to vote and can't get in on any one of David Cook's lines.. busy signals are a very good sign. I won't be disappointed no matter which one wins, and it really could go either way, but I really hope that David Cook will emerge victorious..no matter what Simon says.
I can't help feel like they're again trying to influence the voters..gushing over Archie and kinda downplaying David C a little. Maybe not, maybe they genuinely feel he was the best in all three rounds, but it just seems a little fishy to me...as it should to anyone with ears. They chose from the beginning to groom David A. and write songs for him, etc. The producers picked him as a big fav from the very beginning.. so it's to their benefit that he win! They voted Davd A the best of the night. I think they have an agenda.. Lets hope that DC's fans voted like crazy, and those who may be on the fence and those who only sporadically watch and just tune in for the last two or three shows don't fall for the judges manipulating and everyone votes for the right David.

About the performances, I thought Don't Let the Sun Go Down performed by David A was fantastic. I too love this song and it really was the perfect choice for him. The rest of David A I could do without. The crooning style really gets on my nerves. I could never buy a CD of his.
With that said, I am and have always been a David Cook fan. Like Chris Daughtry, I could and would by a CD from him. As far as his performances last night, I felt like he was purposely holding back, especially on the Collective Soul song. It was beautifully sung, but he really could have blown us away with that one, and he chose not to. I'm not sure if it was nerves or what, but he didn't bring his A-game and thus was a mere B+ to me on the night.

That's they way I feel too.. it's probably better for him if he doesn't win.. but I'd really like to see him win only because I'd hate to see him beat out by David A and have to deal with him.. I can just imagine what he'll be like if he wins. Having David C have to stand there like he's 2nd to him just seems wrong LOL although, I had kind of considered the thought that David C might have purposely downplayed and not done anything really spectacular because maybe HE is hoping to not win, so he can do his own thing. He may have something in the works, and winning isn't what he wants.. hmmm. I know he wants to record something with Michael Johns.
I got 1 vote in about 11:00 on 03...I wasn't sitting there constantly trying to redial though.. I just tried here and there after the first 20 or so tries that were busy. Lol
Before the show I felt sure that David Cook had it in the bag - but afterwards I 'm not so sure...
Tonight will be a nail -biter...
It's a competition. Not everyone's favorite wins. The people who vote (especially the ones who vote over and over) get to pick their favorite. Deal with it.
Of course the show "favors David Archuletta." IT'S A POP MUSIC COMPETITION! David Cook is more of a rocker, Archuletta is a Pop Music Producer's Wet Dream. That's life. Both will go on to HUGE careers.
Round 1 - David A.
Round 2 - David A.
Round 3 - David C.
I thought "The World I Know" performance went off without a hitch. I didn't understand why the judges weren't more enthusiastic. Either way, whoever wins doesn't really matter to me. They're both talented, but I wouldn't buy either of their albums. AI is loosing some of its lackluster. I want to see some contestants next year with some real charisma.
As for David Archuleta he is my choice. I said it since the very first show. His singing is flawless and also has stage presence and charisma which is very important. I can understand one becoming a bit arrogant once you're a big shot but not even big shot stars who have been around for ages act like Cook does.
I read somewhere that the Idol promoters were interested in having Archuleta win so that they could have their very own "Miley Cyrus" on their hands. And I would have to believe that to be true. Money talks and bullsh*T walks.
Good luck to them both and may the best man win!! ;)
I don't think the viewers..the voters..necessarily favor DAvid A .. just the producers do.. which is why they try and play him up .. I have no problem with that, and I think no matter who wins it will be fine. I just hate to see David A beat David C. LOL
Now, when I watched last night, I was more in the mood for some rock .. Ihad been listening to some Guns N Roses and stuff earlier..so maybe that's why David A's crooning didnt wow me as much as some people.. ::shrug:: I'll listen again on Youtube when I'm in a mellower mood and see what I think then LOL
now, I'm a big David Cook fan.. I think he's great, and I don't see arrogance or cockiness in him at all. Confidence, yes, but I don't see him as at all cocky.. while David A, even though he has a great voice, and I think he's very talented and has stage presence.. since he's been on stage for quite a few years already, he should have.. but to me he seems kinda smarmy and when he talks and sings, I sometimes want to hand him a tissue and tell him to blow his nose. ..but maybe I'm imagining it..and it's just some perception I have of him for some reason. I will be interested to see what David A does when this is over and see what happens as he gets older.. he'll definitely be successful.. I just really love David C's voice and his style..and I would definitely buy a CD of his, where David A I don't think I would..unless he comes out with some really spectacular songs.. on the strength of him and his voice alone.. I wouldn't buy it.
Its gonna be a close race tonight either way.. we'll see what the rest of the world thought tonight..or at least we'll see whose fans had the fastest dialing fingers LOL
(btw, I actually downloaded some of DC's stuff off iTunes last night, just in case they jack up the prices later!) :o)
C'mon guys. David Archuletta's "golly gee you guys really like me?" schtick is old..but it's not fake. Miley Cirus has a famous father with famous connections who mentored her her entire life. She's been groomed for the limelight. David A is a 17 year old kid who was a nobody growing up in UTAH (of all places). He needs some polish but fan or not, you gotta see the talent there and the attraction for young girls. Like someone else wrote on here....he's "Disney."
Cook is the guy you hope is too cool to steal your girlfriend away. Arrogance. Give me a break. Was Axil Rose arrogant? Jim Morrison? Elvis? Mick Jagger in his prime? The only NON ARROGANT "Rocker" I can think of is Bono. Nuff said.
I love the Cook. I'll buy the Cook...but Archie is gonna win, "deserves" on some level to win and will be a huge hit with his market.
From there, the American public votes and they do have to count every single call for what it is. I do believe they have an announting firm of some sort monitoring them. But that's not to say Idol doesn't recruit their own people to call in for whom they want to win.
Nothing original about Cook whatsoever. He doesn't even do a good job when singing top ten alternative rock hits that he tries so hard to emulate.
The true natural and best artist here is Archuleta. I have never been into ballads but since hearing this young man of 17 sing; he has blown me away and I WILL be buying anything and everything that he should ever sell.
Once Cook can be original and come up with something that he has written and not something we've all heard on Alternative Rock radio stations a million times, then maybe he'll be worth giving a listen to. His voice isn't even that great. He always sounds as if he is trying too hard. If you're that good you don't have to try so hard.
