So I finished up filling in the flower beds today after a quick trip to Home Depot for six more of the 99-cent plants. I got four impatens and 2 white begonias. I also planted my clematis finally after watching where the sun falls and for how long. I think it will do well where I ended up putting it.
Yesterday the solar lights I got in the last Woot-off arrived via UPS. So I assembled and placed those out in the flower beds as well. I like them and they look good. My only regret is that I wish I had purchased 3 sets rather than 2.
The photos below were taken shortly after the severe storms tore through North Georgia. I wasn't in an area hard hit, but it was still kind of dismal outdoors when the photos were taken.

In the photo above, I filled in with 5 more plants in the back. I added 2 white begonias and 3 impatens here. I also stuck one of the solar lights in this bed too.

Fot this bed I added a solar light and also planted the clematis. I had picked out the small trellis the other day and the plant wrapped nicely around it. There are two blooms and 6 other buds on it. So it should fill in nicely here I hope.

See that small impaten above? Hard to believe that's what size the others were when I first planted them 4-5 weeks ago. Really illustrates their growth well I think. I also added a solar light here as well.

The only thing added above was the solar light. Both of the two dirt beds are ready for mulch. My roommate says he'll go pick up some for me tomorrow at the pond & landscaping wholesale place that's nearby. So I should be completely finished by tomorrow afternoon. At last that's my plan.
As an update to the english ivy... the last round of Roundup doesn't appear to have done much yet. So I guess I'll have to do the final round sometime later this week.

I had to plant 5 flats of impatiens to fill in my front alone. I think I've spent about $350 on the gardens so far. Kevin keeps enabling me and telling me he'll dig whatever hole I want him to. The nerve!
I love how you did the bird bath area, that will look totally awesome when it is all grown in and it is looking good already.
I envy you the hostas - boy do they look great already - you may have to move those next year, if they keep growing like that. I mean - transplant one or two to give the others more room. Sorry, I'm not too coherent this morning:)
Now I am waiting for the new bench....anticipation, it's so nice to see your garden grow, and I don't even have to work on it.
Now comes the weeding and watering. No more weeds in the veggie garden though, we added the black fabric from Garden's Alive. It should last at least 5 years. Yay!
"black fabric", is this landscape cloth??
Yea, pinestraw is the thing, - I love it and have never ever had enough, so funny Amy had 23 large garbage bags of straw....I would have given anything for those bags!! LOL Pinestraw rots over a period of time making the soil much better along with keeping the moisture around the plants so the roots will not dry out, - I put out 25 very large bails of straw 2 weeks ago and still needing more.............wondering if Amy could Fed-EX that straw to me!!! LOL
Again, I do love what you have done there, - it really looks nice my friend!!
Phyllis, I refuse to buy the stuff when my yard and woods are loaded with pne straw. Mine never looks as "fresh" as using the bales, but that's ok. I think adding mulch to the two dirt beds added a nice contrast.
So, you alternate between the pine straw and the mulch?
Thanks so much for posting this to
my group
It looks really good.
I like the solor lights. Hope your's get more sunlight than mine seem to. Mom said they have to have a good 8 hours of sunlight a day to work correctly. I have 20 of them around our house and garden and there's usually at least two that won't work right from night to night. You just never know. It's annoying. But I'm not going to move them. I like them where they're at.
It's looking great. Love your bird bath.
You did a wonderful job girl.
The yard is precious and so are the photos.
Ten again.
Have a great day. I'll send some rain your way if you need some.
I will be outside some this weekend and I will take pics of my seedlings etc.
Thank you for sharing your garden
Arlene,
Poulsbo flowers
Love the birdbath. What type of border do you use?? The black plastic from Home Depot? You always do an awesome job.
I also see you have Dusty Miller, one of my favs.
