Greetings folks, friends, family. Here I am in the Northwestern central area of Nevada. Eureka. This little town is the friendliest town on the Lonliest Road in America - Highway 50. The folks know I am here because they see the flag flying. My husband walks over and hangs it each morning and takes it down in the evening before the ruby colored Nevada sun sinks behind the sage at Diamond Mountains. The dogs follow along side of him. They return and he cooks up a hardy breakfast. When I smell the coffee, I scuff along in my fuzzy leopard slippers and pour myself a cup with a dash of Kahlua. My minutes are a celebration. My holidays are the hour I just spent looking at the birds around all the bird feeders.
So far since we've been here, I was roped into photographing high school kids practicing for the upcoming rodeo. I received a lovely video camera for my 59th birthday and have been learning to use it. I have grand ambitions for the summer but that's another story. Right now, I am learning the basics. This piece of miraculous technology also takes st
ills! I shot a few stills and they'll appear in the rodeo bulletin. My claim to fame this week!
I am again wrapped in the charms of Isabel. This wonderful little house was built and occupied for more than 70 years by a woman named Isabel Kitchen. She planted and grafted fruit trees and planted many native plants around the house. Flowers are everywhere. Isabel is the name of this house. I feel her presence and I do truly believe that she guided us to this house. We purchased it for a song and it came with everything. I particularly love old things. I've kept every single thing that was left behind. I respect her and what she did for so many years. We work with the house and all its many angles
.
Isabel was an artist and though our art is worlds apart, I do cherish that she painted here. Luckily, some folks at the local bank gave me one of her paintings. It was done when she was older but I love it anyway. She only had one eye and so the house is very well-lit. I am thankful because I love lots of light. I hung many chrystals so the house is always filled with rainbows.
This isn't a conventional place for anyone in the world to live who wasn't born here, grew up here, work in the mines or owns a ranch. We chose it simply because the people at the KeyHole Bar were so friendly to us one summer day. They invited us to a Sunday barbeque and each year we passed through and stayed a few days. At Christmas, we'd come back and these folks became our extended families. Serendipity stepped in and we found Isabel. It is a wonderful haven for an artist like myself. I paint to be painting and create universes where my various personalities can hide
out or become jubilant. It is a wonderful and freeing feeling to be one with a piece.
I am grateful to have this place to escape to away from California and before Louisiana. I can collect my thoughts and decorate it exactly as I want to. Thank you for reading this.
Salud.

And Kahlua in your breakfast coffee? Gotta love you, woman!
The house sounds delicious.
Sounds wonderful! I know that your three worlds are beautiful settings, each in their own special way. I would venture to guess that your are always surrounded by fun-loving, hospitable people, for such are drawn to you because those same traits are your own, yet, in you, they are magnified. All in all, I think it is Mariana who is the creator and living manifestation of those celebratory minutes and holiday hours. Each could not exist, nor would those many universes you create come into existence if they were not seen through your heart, mind, and eyes first.
Thank you mis Marianne - it took me two hours to post that article - I'm on slow dialup here...it is a Sony digital 20X 6.1 mega pixels full HD 1080 xpv. color video camera. I love it so far - just getting used to it for a project this summer in La. it's very slight and small but has really neat cineamatic capabilities...thanks. Salud.
my heart is really pure but I can sure pollute it sometimes Miz Krista - Salud.
"My minutes are a celebration."
What a marvelous attitude! Would you come up here and give me some lessons? I need to gain some of that way of looking at life.
thank you Jo C. Appreciate. Salud.
Blessings, dear friend.
This is one of the most delightful articles that I've read in a long time. You said so many wonderful things in such a short space that one could easily gloss over them.
Just the idea of kids preparing for a rodeo fills me with an excitement. And your husband going out to hang the flag makes such a statement.
I loved that photo of the horse.
Above all, however, is your love for this house. I can feel it 8000 miles away.
I'll come to San Diego if a business merger takes place. It won't happen for at least 6 months.
As Judi said, this article brings us closer to you, dear Mariana.
Kay M. I do love it here - I think it's the fact that the house is so warm and cozy and one never knows about the weather - quite dramatic - I am enjoying the moments which are rapidly stacking up....thanks so much.
Lynn, I would love it if you and that crazy cajun visited - omg - the gumbo and the food - I'll weigh a ton !!! thank you!!!
Fred - well, this is another world and would be for you - I think you would like it very much and actually from San Diego it's not a bad drive but you gotta love the country - course when you get here, there's the KeyHole and the Owl club - you know typical western smokey bars with the poker machines...but my little Isabel has a great yard and my living room is quite cozy...however, it's snowing!!! Salud.
John, I think creativity is everywhere - I particularly like to create new universes that don't look like old ones! Salud.
all your photos are beautiful... nice to see you... Salud...
wherever you are, sweet dreams... love,

Pamela - oh thank you so much - come and join me please - you look like a blast! Salud.
Congratulations!
Truly enjoyed the article and pictures. Sounds like you have found a very special place. Nice to know that when a unique person had a house and history in it, that it is being celebrated and continued by someone new. I love the respect for the past and the interest in the future. Learning a new video camera - I feel sometimes I'll never learn how to use my new camera with a camera in it.
Again, congratulations.
Judy L. Hello and thanks so much. Salud.
Elizabeth - yes, I saw it and I pinged you - it's so exciting, isn't it!!! Salud.
this was a wonderful article... i love knowing that you are happy...

entire so pretty can follow to be loved !!!
I lived in Nevada for awhile, and I was quite surprised at how the desert culture can draw a person in. There is real beauty and life if one can look with "different" eyes.
Bravo for being featured! Another of your wonderfully inspirational pieces. Have fun in Eureka and later in Louisiana!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Thank you first of all, Gather - for featuring this article. I was truly surprised but it goes to show that one should always write from her/his heart! Anyway, I am most appreciative to the Gather staff for putting up with me for over two years and for finding my article good enough to feature!!! Salud.
David, my friend - I am sorry that I've not been over to visit you lately - thanks so much for your comment!
Melinda - we must always appreciate what we have and the Universe will smile on us and make things as good as they can be...there are diamonds in the dust bins and rubies in the leaf piles - we just have to have be grateful for the ability to see them! Salud.
Christine - thanks so much and I love your story - perhaps it could be an article!
Regarding desert - this area could be part of the High Desert - I suppose - but it's also known as the Great Basin. Isabel planted many trees, brought in top soil and has a plethora of plants. I've seen and noted at least ten various bird families and there are always deer in the yard. I love wildlife and would rather look at the deer than worry about my flowers - we all have our priorities. I keep water in a child's wading pool for anything that needs a drink of water. You are right though - about the desert. As we were driving here - ten hours from Santa Barbara, I saw so many wild flowers - which I'll post later - this puter is so slow that it took me two hours to post this article along with pictures! Thanks for joining my net work. Salud.
Necee - omg - those flowers are sooooooooooooo gorgeous - thank you my sweet friend.
Chelsea - good to see you - thanks so very much!
Bent - oh there you are my friend - it's been a while since I've seen you - Ok now I must go say hello to all of yall. Thanks bunches and many blessings on this weekend. Salud.
Thanks for coming by Jerry - good to see you. Salud.
One of these days-- I might, just fly out and come for a visit!! I have tea with my *K.
Happy Memorial Day! Miz MoZZZZZZZZZeeeeeee
Thanks for your recent comment; I've not been on much either since so much was changed on Gather; I find it hard to get to my friends' articles anymore. At least now we can turn off the "feed" that seemed to dominate over our work!
Anyway, I'm glad you thought of me, which led me to your article. I enjoyed visiting your home in Nevada. It is like a peaceful dream. How lucky you are!
Please nudge me again soon! Warm regards from sunny southern France,
Susan
