- veggies
- meat (unless you're a vegetarian)
- side dishes
- beer
- spices
Step1
Beer makes an excellent marinade base for raw dishes such as chicken, beef and shark. Try beer, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and garlic for something easy and delicious.
It also is an excellent way to add to the flavor of those easy to cook favorites such as hot dogs, bratwurst and shrimp. Try boiling these items in beer before you bring them to the grill and you'll notice an extra sweet flavor you'll love.
For beef and chicken items, also try pouring a little beer on them as they cook.
Step2
Squash, tomatoes, onions and corn are all delicious and easy to grill.
If you can find a huge homegrown zucchini or similar flavored squash (it needs to be big big big for this), try slicing it up before grilling it and using it in place of beef in your cheeseburger. It sounds strange, but a zucchini burger is one of the most delicious things I've ever grilled.
Also, though it isn't a "veggies" per-se, pineapple is excellent when grilled.
A great thing about the veggies is that unlike the meat, they rarely need marinades or any other leg work. Just throw them on the grill, flip and enjoy.
Step3
Dress up your coals. Try adding a little rosemary, hickory wood or the crown from a pineapple to spice up the coals. These will all add a little extra yum to the smoky flavor of the BBQ.Also, rosemary has been said to keep away summer time pests such as flies and mosquitoes, which can be a godsend on some sunny days.

This is my important elements for summer grilling (or BBQ): grill rub mixture, newspaper for my chimney starter, the chimney starter, a grill brush, a tray for dragging the food up and down the stairs to the grill, some wood chips, a tin plate for the chips, and some spray for the grill top.
