To John F Walter, our friend and superb fellow poet, who inspires us in his own unique way.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY~ 19 May
On the pulse of this new day
The perceptive sculptor ,
Desires to sculpt a timeless statue.
Calloused hands brawny
Yet tender, fervent and fantasist,
Gently stroking the limestone.
Mute painstaking moments
Stones shouting aloud,
More than a devout sermon.
Imperial brow and mane, curved
Edge, rippling side and great paw,
Endowed by hammer and chisel.
A tender inner voice
Mumbled the solitude,
Serene detail, sacrificed.

Happy Birthday John!
Bhawana..you are a gift!
the sculpture is exquisite... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, John...
Happy Birthday, John....a half century...my goodness, you are dirt old!
Happy Birthday to this wonderful sculptor,,,
Bhawana, thank you. This description of the sculptor at work reminds me of Ram Dass´exhortation, Be Here Now! A sculptor sculpts, a writer writes. And here you have hewn an image of the immortal artificer brilliantly (to cite James Joyce from my favorite section of Portrait Of An Artist As A Young Man):
¨His soul had arisen from the grave of boyhood, spurning her grave-clothes. Yes! Yes! Yes! He would create proudly out of the freedom and power of his soul, as the great artificer whose name he bore, a living thing, new and soaring and beautiful, impalpable, imperishable.¨
In order to make a timeless thing, it must live in us first, in the fullness of time, our own energies forming and shaping the object in order to metaphorically stop time so that all is empty around the thing itself, which becomes a holon for a greater world than our own paltry stick figure of an ego can bear.
You have done this admirably here, in word and image, and I give thanks to the greater God for our friendship and laud your accomplishment in the stopping of a time we share, in both the sim world we have connected in, and the real world where we will one day smile across from each other, finally meeting face to face.
Now won´t that be a timeless moment, Bhawana?
You have chosen a great work of art to honour John and written a beautiful poem for him.
I'm very glad that he has brought such depth of meaning to you.
And happy birthday to JFW.
And congratulations to you.
Bhawana, I was intrigued by the beginning and last lines of your poem. They beautifully captured the essence of your write. This is a lovely tribute to your friend, John.
*You have such a talent for creating beautiful phrases like the above; they stay in the reader's mind.
Lovely!
