So my new novel, The Safety of Secrets (Avon A/HarperCollins $13.95 - or only 11 on amazon!) is coming out next Tuesday, May 27th, and my book tour is starting that night, too. I'll be in lots of places all summer, and it would be really wonderful to see y'all. So please come by and say hey. And if you get a chance to pick up my book, I'd love to hear what you think. I also do phone chats with book groups, if that is of interest. Anyway, hope you have a great week! :)
Here's a synopsis of my novel:
"Now we're just alike." So begins Fiona and Patricia's friendship that warm autumn morning in first grade in Lake Charles, Louisiana, their bond forged ever closer by Fiona's abusive mother and Patricia's neglectful one. Their relationship is a source of continuity and strength through their move to L.A. to become actresses; through Fiona's marriage and not-yet-famous career; through Patricia's ups-and downs with men and sudden fame. When their husbands' needs and Hollywood pressures exact a toll, the women wonder if their friendship can survive. But the true test of their devotion is just beginning. A dark secret from their past begins to emerge, threatening to destroy not only their bond, but all they've worked for as well.
The Safety of Secrets is an exploration of the bonds forged in childhood and challenged decades later, of the fulfillment of dreams and the damage they can cause, and of secrets being uncovered and the truth we find inside. "Written with tremendous narrative velocity, The Safety of Secrets is almost impossible to put down. It is a hilarious inside look at Hollywood, a nuanced portrait of a friendship and its secrets, and a moving testament to the powerful effects of a destructive mother." –Dani Shapiro, best-selling author

Good luck with your book young lady.
Life On The Reservation, much appreciated.
and I love your work, Barbara. thanks for writing it!
Have a great summer touring and safe home Delaune.
(one more thing)
Did I read in one of your articles that you knew the poet, Stan Rice?
I meant to mention it when I commented but forgot to.
What a wonderful experience that must have been.
Good luck!
Congratulations on the release of your new book. I will try to make your reading in Chelsea. Enjoy!
I sure wish you were coming to Texas as it looks like you skipped right over us! ;(
It's in the stars, dear Gather Friend, you're going to have a wonderful and successful tour! (You don't get anywhere near my city on the tour, too bad.) Many good wishes and congratulations!
Rest up you're going to need it...at least I would...LOL.
Best travels!
WHAT ABOUT CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA?

I'll give you my thoughts on your book as soon as I finish reading it. I'll pick it up as soon as it hits the store!
BIG HUGS ~
René
I would love to meet you.
This is fabulous news. Congratulations to you!
I bookmarked your website, because I wanted to be sure to find the book whenever I wanted it -- like maybe your own book signing event at Borders, San Francisco.
But no tour in San Francisco!!!? Statistically speaking, we have a high level of readership, highly educated population, and that surprises me; I'm sure the schedule shall be modified as time goes on, plus Gather might even get John Philipp to host some events for you there.
(See how hard I'm trying to sell the idea. I would just really love to meet you at a book signing event.)
Again, congratulations to you. What a lovely thing to happen to one of the loveliest personas on Gather.
I would love to go and meet you, but I am a bit far from anyplace on your schedule. Bummer!
I wish you luck and great turn outs!
So looking forward to meeting you and your husband.
Hope everybody at your house is now healthy!
xo
Just wanted to add that I really admire your talent and your down-to-earth attitude that I see. You make us all proud.
If you add a few more states, you could run for president!
Congrats on your book and best of luck with your tour, Delaune!
booooooooooooo
We're the 6th largest city in America ya know...not a suberb of LA.
:-(
yes, maybe you will be booked for Seattle at some pt. so we can meet....wishing you a successful tour.....the stylist in me wants to see you wear turquoise,or something other than darker somber tones....hey, it is Springtime and i just know a more colorful palette would be flattering to you ;>
congrats for book no. 2 !
hugz,gayle
xo to all
I know you're going to enjoy yourself, and get worn out a lot. We're going to keep up with you too.
;-)
I'm so jealous :)
Best of luck with the tour...
I have a new granddaughter due 6/22 but I don't think she plans on waiting that long, so alot of what I do will be decided upon by that child's actions.
Once again, welcome to Gather, hope to do more chatting.
