Obama explains why he doesn't salute the U.S. Flag
I sure hope this gets around before Nov.!!!
On Sat, 22 Mar 2008 18:48:04 -0400, 'LTG Bill Ginn' USAF ret. forwarded the following:
Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.
'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.'
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president!! I, for one, am speechless. He has absolutely NO pride in this country!!!!!

don't vote for him. This type of nonsense trivializes our electoral processes and make us look ridiculous to the world
Obama is a very good used car salesman but that is all he is. There is no substance in the man.
I have that tape of Obama standing like a statue while our National Anthum was sung. He made no movement to respect it. Bush, It is just a piece of paper Obama, It is just a song and is war like. Notice any simulalrities?

I am also speechless.
What you posted reads like one of those phoney things that have been circulating around through the emails.
Whomever wrote this does not have the same pattern of speech as Obama.
I think this is a fake.
How what George Bush senior. Colin Powell is saluting, not him. Give me a break!
Former U.S. President George Bush, center, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, left, and retired General Norman Schwarzkopf, right, stand at attention during the playing of the National Anthem Monday, Feb. 26, 2001.

I am not saying that making false statements are okay, because it is wrong to lie period. I'm just saying that Barak will not be getting immunity on the mudslinging.
Running for President is blood bath sport, not a place where special rules are made for certain candidates.
because he's not wearing a flag pin he's got a clear mind?? I dont' understand your reference.
Bush or Cheney could wear 100 flag pins on their butt and it wouldnt change who they are and what they stand for.
They were angry so angry in fact that they risked it all to gain the independance we hold so dear today.
See this link for several pictures of Obama with has hand over his heart during the playing of the National Anthem.
Just a caution to everyone who gets emails like this one. A lot of them are hoaxes. Some are liberal, some are conservative, others are not explicitly political. It's really a good idea to look at the Snopes web site before passing anything like this on.
AFAIK, Ike Snopes has nothing to do with the site. :)
Which nation are you talking about?
When you use the word "hacker" do you mean:
1. Bad golfer?
2. Baseball player who's not selective about what he swings at?
3. Highly skilled computer programmer who's especially good at algorithms and can write code very quickly and creatively?
Lets see, we also, want freedom of speech, lets see Chives, is a good example of attacking someone who doesnt support Obama. I guess he thinks he scares me when he calls me a douchbag and threatens for him and his buddies to stop by my articles and tell all about a connection of mine, who posts articles about Obama. Chives supports Obama and I dont. What right did Chives have pinging me,,,, so if its fail for him, its fair for me....
For hacker: cat working on hairball?
Umm...which country are you talking about? I thought the US was the greatest nation on Earth, probably in the entire solar system.
The really sad thing is that some people will cling to anything, even knowing that it's a blatant lie, just to make their case against someone they don't like. It embarrasses me for them.
This makes about the fifth time I've seen this posted on Gather alone, and I've received it via email numerous times as well. I guess I just got tired of thinking people would catch on.
No hostility here... I wonder if Terry would defend the truth if we were spreading lies about Bush? Wouldn't that make him hostile by his own definition?
It's a sad fact that mudslinging is a part of our society. It didn't start with Obama or McCain and I feel certain it won't end with them either. But why is it that some people only see it as wrong when it's aimed at their candidate of choice?
Thanks Miss Havisham.
Terry, if this is hostility... you need to join the real world. You aren't defending yourself; you are defending a proven lie, just because you don't want to believe it isn't true.
Very sad.
As I said above, I have heard far worse things about McCain, but I don't spread them on the internet because I don't KNOW them to be true. So which of us is hostile? The one who doesn't want to spread something that MAY be untrue or the one who knows it's not true but chooses to treat it like truth and defend it to the end?
And I'm sorry but no matter how you look at it, posting a known lie and presenting it as truth is HATEFUL. And calling it freedom of speech doesn't make it right.
I think not. Freedom of speech goes both ways. Watch out... McCain's day is on the horizon, isn't it? Heard some interesting news just in the past two days.
The article expresses a pretty obvious lie. However, the internet currently has about a zillion lies being propagated, demeaning both candidates, is the fact of life today. One needs to be careful in passing these on if one is sensitive to truth.
Most of us, if we have watched, have seen Obama salute the flag. Nowhere is it written that the flag should be worn as a lapel pin, in fact, this has a certain demeaning character. However, Obama has started wearing a the lapel flag pin so we know that stating he wont is false. The national anthem quote is pretty obvious fiction. To assault the man on grounds of lack of patriotism would be an acknowledgment that the person assaulting has zero understanding of what patriotism is!
