Good morning friends and writers!
I'm off to a book signing today at Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake. It's a gorgeous part of the country, which I highly recommend for a nice long vacation. Wineries dot the lakeside hills and the restaurants abound. Today I won't be vacationing, I'll be working hard. But I love it, as I get to meet so many diverse and congenial folks during these events.
Well, I'm already a bit behind on my schedule, because Sadie (our pugapoo puppy with the broken leg) wanted to snuggle longer than usual this morning. She wakes me every day at 5:30 for her breakfast. When she's done, she likes to climb under my comforters and lick my face while I scrub under her ears. Just like a little baby on a schedule. Which, of course, she is!
Anyway, I promised a few pix of her, and here they are.;o)
Friends - enjoy this glorious day. And if you love to write, remember to write like the wind!

Sadie didn't understand why her leg hurt. Normally a very happy puppy, this expression on her face just broke my heart. After she was put in the splint and had a few days of medicine to reduce the swelling and pain, she was fine.

She loves to sleep, and when she does she stretches out her little toes, much like a kitten who "knits" against his mother's furry undersides.
I kind of woke her up for this shot, so she looks a bit bleary eyed. But this here is her little broken leg. It's healing well and she gets around so fast you'd hardly know she's "handicapped." She's an awfully cute little "peg leg."

Hi, Pat! Good luck today at your reading, too. And congrats again on winning that HUGE writing contest for your lovely and evocative piece, "Vases."
You are one BUSY man!
Thanks for posting this to BEST ORIGINAL PHOTOS, ART AND WRITING FOR 2008.

Hi, Jean! Yeah, Sadie's bandage has little happy faces on it. It's amazing the things they have these days!!
Sadie, thanks for your wishes for our Sadie!!
Samantha - your prayers are so welcomed. Thank you!
Hi, Deb. Thank you!
Kathryn! How are you? Yes - she got a pain killer/anti-inflammatory pill for a few days in the beginning, but after her splint was put on she seemed just fine. I know when my wife broke her arm she said it didn't hurt after they cast it, same with my daughter when she broke her elbow. So I'm praying the little cutie pie was out of pain after that. She seems deliriously happy now, her old self! And yeah, busy all the time, but usually with things I love doing. Like writing, spending time with my grandsons and family, gardening, taking photos, and cooking up great meals for us. That stuff is fun!
Hi, Flit! Hope you're doing well. When can you start swimming in that beautiful lake?
Thanks, Dawn!
Oh, Gerald. A terrible thing happened. My four year old grandson, Gordie, who should be the poster boy for a bull in the china shop, picked her up and put her on his bed. (he's not supposed to do that, but doesn't always listen). We're not sure if she hurt it when she fell or if he accidentally stepped on her, but it happened in a split second and noone saw it. Gordie is very sorry and apologized a lot to our little Sadie.
"Love in a bundle." Love that, Doc!
Hi, Marilyn! Are you from New York? Which is your favorite winery? I love Keuka Springs Riesling, MacGregors, and Seneca Shores Black Red wine. Of course, they're all good!
Hey, Jane! I checked out the linked article - a good one! I hadn't heard of the Green Woods Inn, but it looks great. Now I have yet another place to put on the wish list of places to stay in the Finger Lakes!
Hi, Donna! Thanks. She really is just a furry baby - so apt!
Beverly! Hello! How are you? Thanks for stopping in!
Oh, Amy. You made me laugh out loud with that signing the cast comment. I'll bet she'd like Toby, her best friend, to sign it. He's my daughter's rat terrier - funny name but a beautiful dog. All sleek and shiny and he loves everybody, including Sadie!
Hi, April! See above for the signing stuff. The weather was so goofy - blowing the tent walls in and out and sometimes shining sun and at other times pouring rain. What a day, but it was a blast and I love going to Heron Hill.
Jeff- you are SO right. So far we're up to a grand. LOL. It's a lot of money, but she's worth every penny. It's amazing how quickly puppy love hits ya and how strong those emotions become. Of course I've loved every dog I've been "owned by" all my life, but I forgot how quickly one becomes besotted. Yesterday we spent the whole day away from the house for my daughter's graduation from U of R and Eastman (double degree in psychology and voice) and poor Sadie was just so upset when we got home. She had her "pee pads," so she wasn't uncomfortable, but she just didn't get where we went and why we deserted her. I had to hold her for a long time when we got home. And got plenty of "kisses." Amazing creatures, these animals. We should learn SO much from them.
Thanks, Nihkil! I'll pass on your wishes to Sadie!
Sadie is a darling. Love that brightly colored cast. I can see why she enchants you.
Hi, Beryl. Wineries really are the best venue for selling books and meeting nice folks. I'm hooked! (the semi dry Riesling is also a nice draw!) And I love cheese, too.
Thanks, Marta! Hope your three pups are doing well, too. ;o)
Hi, Ann. I know how much heartache you went through when you lost your friend. I probably should consider health insurance, too!
Delighted you had a good day and sold lots of books, in addition to having a great time. You really are a wonder!
Hubby says I either have a soft heart or a soft head and hes not sure which... tomorrow.. he will probably find out .. IM going to look at an Austalian Shephard.. just 6 months old and full of .. yeah.. energy..hehe oh oh.. and adopt aanother cat tonight..
(I really must finda job!)
Love your lil poochie! Best Wishes!
They also have wine tours daily and teach how to drink your wine.
Its a fabulous experience as well as the many other wineries in the Niagara Region.
Betsy - I haven't explored the wineries up in that region! I usually go east to the Keuka or Seneca Lake vineyards. ;o) Good luck with your new critters!!!
Sadie is doing great! She got her cast off last Wednesday - but must take it very easy for two weeks. Sure - try telling that to an energetic puppy!!!
