I'm taking a few days off from my job the week after Memorial Day. We're considering a trip to Hot Springs, N.C. The small town is near Asheville and we've never been. The place is smaller than its more well-known sister city of Warm Springs, Ga. The towns both have been blessed with a mysterious supply of mineral water. It Hot Springs, it flows at a natural 100 degrees.
Now, don't think I'm losing it. Several of my friends have been and have came back singing the glories of this place and it's water. Perhaps the mineral water does have magical powers, or perhaps spending a few days in the middle of nowhere where there's plenty of small cafes, hot tubs and farmer's markets and no cell phone or WIFI. Anyway, all of them have come back feeling much better. They're energized, their immune system seems beefed up and they even look better. (Just in case any of them are reading, they didn't look that bad to begin with.)
We've looked into cabins and have found some really nice ones ranging from $129-159. We would just be spending one night and we figure it will take about $80 gas there and back. The town also encourages you to bring your empty jugs so you can bring some of the water home. It flows freely at several different areas in town.
What I'm curious about is that all of the hot tubs are outside the cabins so they are hooked up to the natural mineral water. The Web sites promise privacy and the friends I know that have been there have said the baths are very private. (You can even use the city ones for $20 by the hour; they're sanitized between each use and you're provided your own cleaning materials just in case you don't trust them.)
So, any Hot Springs residents or fans out there?

What did you hubby think of the finale of Moonlight?
By the way, they did a segment (on 20/20?) on the foot pad detoxing...total scam.
There's a good Italian restaurant in town but I remember that the coffee was awful.
Asheville is also close by and is a wonderful, progressive town with lots of street art and hipsters.
Hope this is helpful and enjoy your stay.
On the other hand I did enjoy a trip I took once to Warm Springs Virginia.
