As many of you know, I have recently come under some racist attacks by a fellow Gatherer. The person in question hides behind a liberal world view then attacked me for "not being asian enough" (I'm only 25%) to understand racism. After several attacks by this person, I finally got fed up and flagged the offending article. In retaliation he decided to flag two of my articles as hate speech. I am happy to inform you my flag was upheld and both of his have been over turned. It just goes to show there are people with common sense as well as a sense of right and wrong in the world. I only hope that the racist offender has learned a valuable lesson from this experience. I would also like to say that normally I do not flag articles, it was only after this individual continued to repeatedly harass me that I flagged it. Normally, I believe if you don't like something don't read it. However, this person would not let the subject rest and followed me onto other posts to continue his harassment so I thought the flag was my only option to get the point across to him.

I wouldn't worry about them. Usually they resort to a personal attack because they have no rational argument against what you have stated. Either that or they are to stupid to make an intelligent comment.
Please check out my content.

It ain't over til the fat lady sings...;p
It's a shame we can't get on even here. I would say 99.99% of the people on Gather are just here to enjoy the community. We are free to read and comment on everyone elses work, but if we don't agree with someone elses viewpoint, this is not the place to start an argument.
It's also not the place to create articles about hate either, just a shame it turns out that way.
Isn't it sad that even on here we can't all get along.
No wonder mankind is doomed...
This is not because I grew up in a sheltered and upper class environment, where everyone was always polite. Just the opposite. In Brooklyn, we would always rag our friends, but if you said something hostile to a stranger, chances were it would lead to a knife fight. The rule was always be polite, and prepared to fight.
So this behavior of calling people names, and even speaking badly about people, I find very strange. I suppose we are all far from each other, and there is no real threat of physical retribution. But why make an enemy when it isnt necessary. I just dont get it.
Why is it you think freedom of speech is only for you?
I am just trying to understand what happened and why articles get flagged because things get heated.
I looked over a couple of your comments and saw that you called people idiots and stupid. While I dont condone racism in any way I also dont condone name calling.
Things get heated on gather but that is no reason to censor by flagging an article.
My 2 cents.
And if you can dish it out you should have skin thick enough to take it.
This person could've just agreed to disagree, but he decided to go down the negative route and attack you. It's sad that racism occurs even in this day and age and follows good people, even here.
I recently got pinged by Chives, of all people, he seems to have a bunch of stupid followers who agreed with everything he said, especially about WVA, Chives is mad at me, due to me being connected with someone who puts Anti Obama articles out there. He called me a douchbag and threatened to stop by my articles and let me know all about this connection of mine. He claims instead of just him, it is we will come by articles. So I guess he has to have back up to take down this little old short woman...
I can sink right down to his level. It doesnt matter to me. He attacked me first.. SOmetimes you have to defend yourself. Good job and am glad that you stood up for yourself.
People who resort to namecalling are clearly unable to make an arguement on the content that they disagree with...in a way, that actually SUPPORTS the content because they can't find a rational way to counter it.
I usually don't bother reading a hundred back-and-forth comments because my Internet time is too limited and precious to spend on this kind of banter. I don't know why I did today, but it's actually been very interesting. You learn a lot about people by observing not only what they say, but how they say it.
On a day like this, it's good to remember we argue because we care.
Peace!
