Need to sell books?

I'm sure many of you know you can sell books on Amazon.com.  I buy and sell my college text books all the time.  I really save a lot of money by buying used textbooks even with the shipping charges.  The book I had to buy this semester cost $66.00 total to buy used and have it shipped.  If I bought it new at my college it would have cost $116.00.
I paid $55.00 for my used Algebra text book online and sold it for $59.00 yesterday!!!  Not too bad for a book I will never use again. 

So if you have books you don't want anymore and don't mind the hassles of shipping, I recommend using Amazon.com for all your book needs.

We have a Half Price Books in our town. That's another good place to sell books, cds, etc.

I love Amazon and Half-Price Books. HPB more so because it's about 3 miles from my house and I don't have to box and ship the books anywhere.

Who needs algebra? Your math skills rock. Buy a book, use iy for a year, and sell it for a profit. You should be teaching a class

I've sold on amazon before. The sell fees are a hard hit though.

I love selling books on Amazon! To really make it pay off it is best for them to be hard cover and desirable. You can tell right away by looking it up and seeing what they are going for. If they are anything under say $7.50, I don't bother. Those books get donated to the library.

We sell our textbooks on Amazon when we are done with them as well!

I'm going to have to try selling books on Amazon. I've been using half.com off and on, but I'm not really happy with them lately. So I've mostly just been swaping out my books via Paperbackswap. I'd rather get money though! ;-) Thanks for the info!

I have books and have tried to sell them but seems no one wants to buy them. I tried ebay, amazon. overstock. Nada and they are good books, classics and others not your dime a dozen novels either. I know the price asked was not to high. I checked with others first and nor where they in worse condition in fact some were in better condition. I might try again sometime but seems it is a waste of time and effort.

I usually donate my books to different groups but I might consider reselling if they were college text books. I have a friend going to college for nursing and her books are so very expensive. Selling them would be a win-win situation...a person could get some cash back and someone else gets the book at a discount.

If I ever really need a book (which is rare) or get a gc, I love to shop there because of the used book market available. My Kindergartner practically kidnapped one book from the library because he loved it so much, so I got him his own copy. It was a hardcover book with plastic cookies glued to all the pages -- I got it and another same style book by the same author for around $2 each! It only gets tricky if you use more than one vendor and then you have to pay s&h for each vendor. Oucher.

I setup a store on eBay for this recently.. $15/month vs. $39.99 on Amazon.. seems to be doing OK!

Thanks. As a former professional bookseller ( I keep the title, don't have time to list much, as I spend time writing, writing and reading, lol), there are many sites, including Amazon. POtential sellers need to evaluate which sites offer the best chances of a sale, what types of books sell there and don't forget to factor in the sites' FEES and shipping charges (they'll give you a shipping credit but it won't go far if you have a 15 pound book).

By 15 pound, I mean a large, coffee table book. SOme beginning sellers offer priority shipping and then (gulp) realize that they are going to have to pay nearly all their profit in shipping. Trust me on this.

Before selling your books on Amazon, try checking the prices that a bunch of websites will buy them for on BookScouter.com. There are a bunch of sites that will buy your books directly and even provide prepaid shipping. Compared with the hassles of selling the books yourself, and paying the Amazon fees, it sometimes just makes more sense to sell them directly.

I've bought used books through amazon.com for about 5 or 6 years. I don't very often anymore because three libraries near where I live have used book stores where I almost always find what I want and for lots cheaper--no s&h. And amazon.com s&h has gotten to be too much.
