A Bookman review.

Normally I find the 'dummies' style/written books a bit tedious,
not all of us enjoy being told we are too stupid to read a standard instruction text.
But, that said I own a bunch of them, mostly on computer related subjects too DENSE to get into directly without a 'crib' sheet….
I found YOU: THE OWNERS MANUAL to be delightful, well written, nicly laid out, not too condescending and WRITTEN for those of us who ADMIT to getting a little older.
I think my favorite section was the one on " Motion Control: Your Bones, Joints, and Muscles"
As it seemed to have some of the best preventative information in the book. The diagram on how to do the 'Sun Prana' will surely be stolen by itinerant Yoga teachers everywhere!
Another WONDERFUL section was on a simple, low impact workout regime that could be done weekly in just minutes! See a sample below.

Thirty minutes of walking every day,
no excuses (can be broken up throughout the day into shorter periods to add up to thirty minutes)
Thirty minutes a week of resistance training, broken into three ten-minute workouts
Sixty minutes a week of stamina training (swimming or cycling), broken into three twenty-minute workouts.
Thirty minutes a week of yoga or stretching, broken into five five-minute stretching sessions
Sample Schedule
THIRTY minutes of walking every day, plus:
Monday: Twenty-minute stamina workout,
followed by five minutes of yoga or stretching.
Tuesday: Ten-minute resistance training,
followed byfive minutes of yoga or stretching.
Wednesday: Twenty-minute stamina workout,
followed by five minutes of yoga or stretching.

followed by five minutes of yoga or stretching.
Saturday:Additional thirty minutes of walking (for a total of one hour)

Sunday: Additional thirty minutes of walking (for a total of one hour)

(I would suggest, STRONLY suggest, some form of warmup stretching BEFORE all these, but that is just me. )
In all I would be delighted to recommend this book for a gift to anyone who is interested in the quality of their life.

Both he and Dr. Roizen are true healers in the real sense of the word.
