i didnt like the way my step dad put me down when i was in the wrong. i think it made me have poor self esteem. giving privelage, and then taking that away when i did wrong was the best punishment
The way my dad "disciplined" me. He would constantly yell at me and berate me when I was growing up. It really hurt my self-esteem and took me a long time to get over it.
For example - I graduated from high school top of my class, and he yelled at me and called me irresponsible b/c I asked my Mom to hold my keys for me during the graduation ceremony. Ruined the entire night for me.
If my father was really mad he would stop talking to me . Sometimes for hours or even a couple of days. I hated that and would never do it with my own children.
I didn't care for the beatings with a belt that had the end cut into fringes two inches long. I really didn't care to have it used on me when I had done nothng wrong.
Nothing....I thank my parents for the punishments they gave me growing up, because I would not be the good person I am today if they had not. I got spankings and grounded, but I want not beat! My parents had a strong belief that a child should be spanked on the bottom and bottom only.

Wow, now there's a question all right! Guess that also I must mention two, well one is not discipline but should have been, so maybe that counts? The first would be how my mom would get when she beat me. Now, first you must know, that every beating I got I not only deserved but just about begged for. I was not the most horrible child, my infractions never evil, but just the same, my mouth was horrible and attitude defiant so that not only did I need correction for whatever infraction I had committed, when I always mouthed off and disrespected during the "talk", mom would be driven mad and then beatings began! So, with that admitted, I still would have wished that she would beat me and be done, some prescribed duration or number of whacks rather than the more she would whip, using whatever was at hand, including sometimes just her hand, the more she would get into and more frenzied she would become, as if would only ever keep getting worse and never would stop, to the point I recall one time, where my dad who as a rule did not get in her way had to come and stop her this day. She started giggling and laughing so much while beating me, she was enjoying hurting me, that he thought today he better get involved, she may have snapped and actually killed me. The second I wish I would have been disciplined and stopped from making the biggest mistake of my life, at seventeen, never having had a boyfriend or a date, my boss had wooed and asked me to marry, Vietnam vet with PTSD, 15 years my senior and 2 kids not much younger than me. I accepted and started planning, as after graduation I had to do something and knew all that would be encouraged, and indeed was expected of me, was to marry and have babies, no college for me, and knew not what else to do. That, someone most definitely should have stopped. But, then also I guess, I would not be now who I am if they had. Who knows? Not a question I allow my self to ponder generally.......

The second I wish I would have been disciplined and stopped from making the biggest mistake of my life, at seventeen, never having had a boyfriend or a date, my boss had wooed and asked me to marry, Vietnam vet with PTSD, 15 years my senior and 2 kids not much younger than me.
