Daily Whine & Shine - May 15, 2008
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our constant struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
You're here! I've been waiting for you. Pull up a chair and sit a spell. Do you have something that's bothering you? Something that makes you so angry that you could spit? Well, do tell. Here, it's okay to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away. Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Look at these days worthy (???) of celebration:
Todday is National Chocolate Chip Day, Nylon Socks Day,
May 16 is Love a Tree Day, National Bike to Work Day (with gas prices, we may have to figure out how to have lots of these days!), Wear Purple for Peace Day
May 17 is Armed Forces Day, Pack Rat Day
May 18 is International Museum Day, No Dirty Dishes Day (use paper plates and disposable utensils), Visit Your Relatives Day (we need a day for that???), National Pizza Party Day (you know...if I owned a pizza restaurant, I'd make the most of this one...giving out free pizza as advertising...)
May 19 is NASCAR Day and Stagecoach Day.
Food for thought:
I think I used this one before, but I like it!
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. ~ Robert A. Heinlein

I'm still feeling horrible. Had to sleep in the recliner the last 2 nights to TRY to keep the coughing down. Lying down seems to make my sinuses draing. Throat is raw. Coughing. Watery eyes. Feel like....doo-doo. Today I have new aches too, aches in addition to the aches and pains I usually have. Sounds like flu, doesn't it? I'm having hot flashes, then get so cold I want the heat up to 80. :-) (Shouldn't have to have heat in May! But it did get down to mid40s again last night, I think.)
Oh No not chocolate chip day!! Don't make me do it lol
I love chocolate chip everything.
Thanks as always.
Have a great day.
I've spent many a night sleeping upright in the living room, so I do understand your misery. I do hope you improve quickly and it's very wearing.
Looks like we are getting some sun today, so I may go out for a while. I had a super "crash" on Tuesday. My hubby woke me up when he came home from work! He is so wonderful and understanding. He took me out to dinner! Not that I was talking much. I came home and went back to bed. The good news is, I cleaned out and organized a huge closet yesterday. What a victory that is.
I have an appointment with a fibro specialist next week. I am hoping he can help me with this terrible fatigue.
Hang in there, Marilyn. I will keep you in my thoughts.
Holli, here in Cincinnati, there's one doc who truly specializes in fibro. He's known around the country too, because he goes to all the fibro conferences. But he's expensive and doesn't take insurance or Medicaid/Medicare. Some save up money and go to him and get a plan they can take back to their regular doc.
Some folks go to a rheumatologist for fibro. My family doc is insisting that I start doing that, 'cause she's not satisfied with what she's been able to do to help me. :-)
Anyway, with fibromyalgia, you must discover the cause to effect the cure, otherwise you are just taking pain pills.
If you would like to discuss this more, feel free to send me a private message.
well their last day of school is this Friday and they dont go back til mid August. My sister is like my best friend and I know she would do anything in world for me and visa versa. She has been asking me if I would keep her kids for the summer,(I stay home with my special needs daughter). She says she would pay me, feed them breakfast and send them a lunch everyday(the kids like to take their lunches) and provide extra milk every week. But I already know that these 2 would drive me up the wall in the first day! They have no rules at home, they get their way and whine whine whine all the time because they are used to egtting their way at home. UGH! She has already called me this morning, I didnt answer, I was cleaning my house. I don't want to watch them! She couldnt afford to pay me what I would charge to watch these 2. But I know this would put her in a bind. My stress level is already high enough with other stuff I am dealing with and I just know that if I did watch them, it would be so much worse.
I dont know how to tell her without making her mad. She is the type of person that is very sensitive and emotional, about everything. I don't know what to do!
Hope you feel better soon!! Sounds like maybe you have some allergies???? They (allergies} have been really bad here. Even granny had some rough day's here and she hasn't ever had allergies before! She had them this year though, the tree pollen was killer here.
Tara, Oh I can sympathize with you! My sister and her first son ......who was colic city ...and very unhappy......... she had my nephew and had me watch him. I couldn't handle it and it turned out to be a bigger mess than it would have if I had just told her that I couldn't manage it. ..... So just tell her that you can manage your own but not hers too. If you wait and she drops them off before you tell her it will be alot messier~
hope you start feeling better.
I really have no complaints today! Sun is shining and I'll be heading over to the Dollar Store in a few minutes to pick up kleenex, cleaning supplies, etc. Even though that doesn't sound too exciting, at least it gets me in the sunshine!
Here's his site: Blatman Clinic
Hope you get feeling better.
