The Jimmy Buffet tribute band, The Boat Drunks, is among the entertainerment lined-up for Memorial Day weekend's HerrinFesta Italiana on Saturday, May 24th in Southern Illinois. The annual event includes the traditional grape stomp during "parrothead afternoon" Saturday between The Boat Drunks' sets. Judging will be in stomping style, dress, and amount of juice produced. The event begins at 5pm at the Piazza Stage. Prizes are awarded fior first and second place in adult and junior categories.
Music headliner Saturday is recording artists John Waite, Herrin native Lori Eisenhauer, Wild Horses, and Academy of Country Music Awards Vocalist of the Year Jake Owen.
Memorial Day entertainers include Jennifer Thompson and Goin' South, Smash band, and The LoCash Cowboys.
There's a raft of other activities through the Memorial Day weekend. There's the Bigga Nose Contest and the Pasta Sauce and Pasta Eating Contests, Friday's Little Mr. and Miss HerrinFest Pageant and Photogenic Competition, Friday's Kid's Bike and Pet Parade, the Grand Parade Saturday, Saturday's second HerrinFesta Triathlon "Tri-Festa" at John A. Logan College, Sunday's Volleyfesta volleyball tournaments, a poker run, and more. Regional art will be on display at the Herrin Civic Center throughout the weekend. Road Races are Monday morning with 10k and one mile courses.
A Memorial Day service is at 9am at the Doughboy Statue on North Park Avenue across from City Hall.
For the kids, there will be appearance by the Incredible Hulk Saturday at 12:30 pm.
