I wanted to see this movie so badly when it was in theatres, but we never made it. So, when I saw that it was coming out on DVD, I rushed to Target to buy it. I just knew that I would love it, and I was right!
Just in case you've never heard of this movie, here is a brief synopsis from Yahoo Movies:
Devastated when his fiancee Kate is killed on their wedding day, Henry reluctantly agrees to consult a psychic named Ashley at the urging of his sister Chloe. Despite his skepticism over her psychic abilities, Henry finds himself falling hard for Ashley, and vice versa. But there is a big snag. Ashley is being haunted by Kate's ghost, who considers it her heavenly duty to break up Henry and Ashley's fledgling romance, if it is the last thing she does on this earthly plane.
This movie stars Eva Longoria Parker (Gabrielle from Desperate Housewives), and Paul Rudd (played Phoebe's hubby Mike on Friends, also in Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Henry (Paul Rudd) and Kate (Eva Longoria Parker) were in love. They were getting married and planning their dream wedding. On the day of their wedding, Kate, who was portrayed as sort of a bridezilla, gets crushed by an ice sculpture of an angel and killed.
Kate is next seen in an all white room with no walls talking to what appears to be an angel. But, as Kate does, she was sort of rude to the angel and pissed her off before she could tell Kate how everything works and what her mission was.
Now, Kate is forced to walk around Earth not knowing what she's supposed to do, but desperate to speak to her almost husband Henry. Meanwhile, Henry starts trying to contact Kate via a psychic/caterer who his sister referred him to. The pshychic couldn't make a connection with Kate, but instead tried to make a connection with Henry by hitting on him.
The two begin to date, and Kate was not at all happy about it. She began to torture the psychic and make her wish she'd never met Henry. I don't want to go into all the details, because it will give away too much info and ruin the movie for you.
But, I have to say that I didn't like the ending. Now let me just explain that the reason I didn't like it was because it was bittersweet. To me, I couldn't picture the ending happening in my own life without it being horrible. So, I didn't like watching it in this movie either.
Other than that, I think this movie was awesome! I loved the comedy (which there was a ton of). I loved the fact that the chemistry between the characters was amazing. And, I loved that you could identify with all the characters. This movie really makes you think about your own life and what would happen if someone close to you passed away unexpectedly.
I think that this is a great movie for a date night. I would highly recommend it to anyone. But, be prepared to laugh and cry. Have that box of tissues ready!
