and why aren't men MADE to wear skin tight swimsuits? I mean, they have a choice as to baggy boxer type or speedo's...women have no such choices@!

Aubrey, believe it or not, back in the early 80's, my friend and I wrote a letter to Playgirl magazine, stating this very issue....all R rated movies gave the men something to look at (T&A), but us women never got any 'eye candy. The same w/ shirtless men VS women.....it's not fair!!!!

I have to say I kinda think its fair.. We have more baggage then men and they cant really help that part.. thats why I think just walking around shirtless is fine.. God gave us these ladies and we are to keep them hidden lol

What an interesting conversation. I love Priscilla's comment about the swimsuits. I'd give anything to have a big baggy swimsuit that covered my less flattering curves!!

Fashion and laws are odd. Especially when they involve each other.

NYC past the law about 10 years ago that women can go topless. i don't think many have, but they did win that victory that they can if they so choose.

I agree with the rest of you that have stated you wouldn't want to show your goods. I'm not one that wants to do that either.

I just wanted to see what others thought about it. I never had given it much thought but the other day it just dawned on me.

Miranda - That is interesting. Well if I ever make it NYC I'll look and see if i find anyone topless. I amazed there isn't more laws taking place like that.

Umm. I for one think that some men should not be allowed to go topless either. I am totally repulsed by the man boobs and that huge gut haning over thier pants or shorts. I think that it should be even and neither can go running around topless.

I know what you mean....trust me, I've seen some men with their shirts off that I wish they would have put a shirt on....and a big jacket too! YUCK!!

I believe in Canada - at least in Windsor it is not illegal for woman to walk around topless. At least that was the case a few years back. I just remember there being a big uproar about them passing the bill.

People have turned women's breasts into a sexual object and that is why they can't just be hanging out in public. I mean there IS a difference between a womans chest and a mans.

Although I have seen some men with bigger boobs than me walking around with their shirts off. I believe those are called moobs (male boobs)

I think women should have equal rights on this. Ok maybe I have my own agenda there. I do agree though that some people just need to cover up a little man or woman.

Well, I'll tell ya, I'd just assume women did NOT take off their tops because I don't appreciate that it causes our husbands to gawk, especially at the young, firm ones. They have enough to tempt them out there without one more thing like bare breasts... yeesh!

I believe it falls under indecent exposure which you can be fined for. Laws in each state vary though.

I agree. I am soooo sick of seeing of seeing topless women. Or even nearly topless. I don't want to see that.

I think it's silly. If men can be topless, then women should be able to be too if they really want to be. ESPECIALLY if breastfeeding. It's a natural process...why should anyone be ashamed of that?

I have no problem with nudity in appropriate places and nude beaches. I mean, if you don't want to see nudes, don't go there. If you do, go. What I object to is people walking around half naked at school and at parties and in places where you would like to think there's would be a little modesty and restraint shown. Like some of the dresses at the Academy Awards. Why not just go topless?

Well I think I am kind of used to it to be with shirt on and sometimes I think they make the men to do the same thing. LOL or at least some of them or you can get scared.

Its illegal to go topless in my area for woman..There were spring breakers that were arrested for it not to long ago.

Yes, it unfair that women can't go topless anywhere a man can go. But remember back in the mid 1800's it was scandalous for a woman to show her bare ankle. In the late 1800's women's bathing suits went from the neck to the wrist to the ankle. Now there are lots of nudsit resorts like min in the world and in Europe there are lots of topless and nude beaches. Top freedom is slowly catching on in enlightened societies.

There are a couple of nudist resorts here in Tampa (actually, one county to the north), I have no problem with nudity, or breastfeeding, but not everyone is as enlightened as I am. Mary, nice to see you.

I happen to agree that is it not fair. We have created a link between sex and seeing body parts and that is why we are still clinging to a logically impotant argument to cover women up. I would argue that total nudity (although still not appropriate in most cases) shouldn't be illegal either. If I can see a man get his head blown off on TV then I should have the same right to see nude human beings, no matter how disgusting :)

This is a perplexing issue. First, why do you care if you do not wish to go topless? Second, I think women should be allowed to go topless if they choose.

But this issue seems easier to solve than most of you seem to think. If you want to go topless, DO IT. And if someone chooses to make a big deal out of it and gets you in trouble, FIGHT FOR IT. An argument in the right direction will land on your side.

One issue with this topic, like male toplessness, deals with time and place. In the yard, especially on a hot summer day; at the beach; at the park; swimming - these are places and times that male and female toplessness is appropriate. Other than that, at a restaurant, at work, walking down the street, at a party, ... - there is a time and place for everything, obviously.

Another dimension of the argument is that men find women's breasts attractive and would stare at them. Ladies, can you honestly say that you find nothing attractive, that is sexual, about a man's naked chest? On a similar thread on another webpage, some woman proclaimed that there should be a law that Matthew McConaughey has to keep his shirt OFF! Doesn't that indicate and attraction, physically, sexually, to men's breasts?
