A couple of months ago, I wrote an article about a new site called Publicbookshelf.com. The basic premise of the site is that you can make your work available to the public for free. The site generates income from Google ads. You earn a percentage of the revenue your work generates from the Google ads. They pay an advance within 30 days of publication.
My book September and Other Stories is finally live on the site. It took a long time to get the book listed due to various technical difficulties, misunderstandings, and site glitches. Normally, such stuff would tick me off, but the staff at the site did a good job of communicating problems with me and letting me know the reasons behind the delays. Considering the stellar way they handled communication with me during the problems, I'd say that us a good sign for their dedication to making the site succeed.
So if anyone wants to go check out my listing to see what it looks like, please do (and while you are there if you like it give me a rating, will you?). You don't need to register to read stuff on the site, but registering allows you to leave comments and add books to your virtual bookshelf. The downside is that ebooks aren't portable. You can only read them directly from the site. However, they are formated with a hyperlinked table of contents so you can skip to the section you want quickly. I've sent them a jpeg of the bookcover, since they are currently using a stock illustration. Not sure when the cover will go live.
