So one day, all the religious monotheistic books mysteriously crumbled. The Torah, the Bible, the Koran all fell apart and turned to dust.

What is the ONE thing you know for SURE? What have you learned, without question, that is true of your religion? What would YOU write in trying to preserve your religious book/s?

I would leave the teaching stuff to others as far as trying to rewrite something, but on a personal note, what I learned has been that God is real, apart of everything. He created me because He loves me ...so much! Jesus is my deepest lover, pain is part of life,but it is good in ways we will sometimes never understand. God loves EVERYONE, even those who don't love or believe in Him, and we should treat others the same way. That even even if heaven and hell didn't exist I would still love Him and He makes my life worth living. I don't know if this would preserve anything and to be honest I didn't actually learn this from any book, but it is my religion.

It's been pretty much covered now, but Do Unto Others has got to say it all, dunnit? What else is there to say. Think of it as the Reader's Digest condensed version of the bible.

I could say a lot of what I think is probably true; but with certainty, not even requiring faith; if put into practice the following is always true:

Love your neighbor as you love yourself and Do to others as you would have them do to you.

If we practice this, we can see instant results of living our lives in this manner. No faith, it is a verifiable truth for any that are willing to honor the saying and conduct the experiment of putting these truths into practice.

That would be great, but is probably about as likely as rapture. I think that "thou shalt not steal" should remain.

I'd still believe in my spiritual beliefs (and nope, not going to share them, try to convert anyone or even bet anyone can guess what I believe) . I'd also try to be a good, ethical compassionate person who knows that we can do plenty of good by helping others and help ourselves as well (often in the process). Love prevails.

to revert to the original way of preserving history - verbally - wonder how messed up things would get then?
as you know, I'm a TBD religious person - in other words, i dont have a belief but concur religious texts are excellent sources of history - to lose the written word of history would be terrible. With that said, I would miss the comparisons of ethics between cultures, during different time (tyme) frames.......therefore, I would have to brush up on the things I DO remember about the original sources.......great question ~j

Carve it in stone letter 20 foot high and engrave it on golden tablets a really simple message
"Treat others as you would be treated"

seems to sum it up

The gold tablets are because they would not rust away.

I too believe that the "books" are all matters of interpretation and as such wouldn't care less were they to vanish. I believe in God or a higher power and as such do not need to have any book show me how to be.

I'm not religious either, but one thing that most religions have in common is a code by which people should live. Call it the Ten Commandments or whatever you like, but basically it boils down to what a number of other people have already said - Treat Others as You Would Like To Be Treated.

I am actually a big follower of Huna...it's a Hawaiian religion, that is an oral religion in itself and it speaks loads about the 3 selves. Most of us operate on the third self, or lower self, which is animalistic and childlike.

That is an interesting question Karen. I used to belong to a religion. But then I accepted Christ & follow Him. If the Books disappeared ... it wouldn't take the new life He put in me out of existance. That would last ... & therefore my spiritual communications with Him.
The other thing that would last is creation and science. (The understanding of creation)
Anyone understanding the laws of thermodynamics knows that there is no way matter couldn have come into existance without an influence outside our universe. That influence is what we call God. None of us knows WHAT he is. What in the world would an uncreated entity look like?? But He has revealed to the world WHO He is. Through His word and through creation.
