So....I posted about the pileated woodpecker that did this
to my tree. I still haven't seen him here.... but maybe one of these days ... and in the meantime, I did have the opportunity to see Wendy's pileated.
I am hoping, though, that I will be able to get lots of other pictures around here this summer.
Even before I got my feeders up, moving to the other end of the house has meant a whole lotta birds.... Ina would not like my desk where it is. There are all sorts of birds outside my window. Yesterday, a tiny redwing blackbird kept swooping towards my window. At one point, it looked as though it was intent on coming right through the glass. It waited until the last second to swoop up and avoid hitting the glass.
This is the hummingbird feeder I got a couple of years ago, for Christmas. It got put away someplace safe - but with all the renovations, we found it again...

This one, I swiped from Ross' store after the little plastic one I had last year broke.

The pottery one is Ross' .... his kid gave it to him; it tends to be a favourite of the blue jays for some reason, although I haven't seen any yet this year; mostly, so far, it's just been the chickadees that spend the winter in the bushes around the house.
The weirdest bird thing I've seen this week was a bird that was carrying a poor baby squirrel.... took me a bit to figure out that it was a poor baby squirrel :( But once I clued in, the tail was pretty much a give-away.
I didn't know what kind of bird it was, other than it had colours much like the mourning doves that hang around here .... but when i talked to Diane she said that there is a sharp-shinned hawk over in that area - around her area - which is where I was (driving by)
I googled it, and sure enough, that looks like the boid.... I found lots of info online... mostly, sharp-shinned hawks eat smaller birds...but they will also go after small mammals/rodents when they get the chance, according to the websites I found.
Bad birdie! They like to hang around feeders and help themselves - becoming more common in Northern areas because they are essentially lazy and like to hang around feeders and help themselves.
I SO need to get quicker with my camera!

You still did a nice job on this Flit. I'm sure you'll get a picture of that hawk.
I am green with envy!
I even mildly enjoyed this article. ;o) The picture of that hawk gave me goosebumps, though. I also felt my gorge rise a little bit. :P
Good pictures Flit.
When we were driving home from dinner on Mother's Day, my son pointed to the railing of a bridge on the highway and there was a big old goose sleeping on the railing. Amazing. Ina this was a 90 and it was crazy busy.
