Hello all! I have survived my yard sale and will update you all as to our success in my "Saving for the Average Person" article this Thursday.
Question of the Day:
What one thing have you always wanted but never got?
It can be a material thing or something you wanted to achieve.
If you already have the thing you wanted tell us about it!

(my daughter is Beth too ;-)
Rob, you are sweet, funny and cute...having one leg does not mean you have to be alone for the rest of your life!
You need to (once you are feeling better physically) get out and go do things...you can meet Mr. right anywhere! Just don't meet him in a bar like I did! (bad idea)
Join a support group for amputees, take some free classes at your local college, check out what is happening at the library(ours has classes, book clubs, music days etc)
Hell put an ad in the paper to meet friends and put the word out to everyone you know that you are LOOKING!
good luck!
Barbara...you are ONLY 54! You get get a degree in as little as 2 years or shorter if you did it online...then you will be 56 with a degree and more money!
(and it was 47 years ago)

I just turned 45 on Friday, and went back to school last semester. When I finally am a certified psychologist I will be over (or right at) 50, but I believe it actually makes more sense for us to be involved in certain professions at an OLDER age. We have acquired the wisdom and life experience not only to be better equipped to serve others (deeper well from which to draw, so to speak), but we actually are more disciplined students (we take nothing for granted, must support ourselves, have had the time to ascertain where we're going and where our strengths lie, and have learned beneficial study habits).
Also, as a mom and teacher (and armchair psychologist) for over twenty years now, I figure I've been practicing all this time anyway-- I ought to get paid and acknowledged for it now. ;)
Blessings upon your endeavors.
I always wanted to be a mother, and I am. I have 2 birth children, 1 adoptive child, and 2 step children.
I always wanted to be an accountant, and at the age of 40 I went back to school to get my accounting degree. I am now doing the accounting for my business.
I always wanted to own my own business, and at the age of 42 I started my own business. It is called Rosebud Property Development and Management.
I always wanted to be a teacher, and I am in a round about way. I am a volunteer in the first grade class and have worked with this teacher for 5 years now. She treats me like her equal and I do almost everything she does. I am an unpaid teacher, but my pay is in the progress the children make because of me being there.
Very happy with my life as it is.
and most if not all are achievable with a little work!
Mary, a hot tub sounds fab!
Michele, I have always felt that way too...too tall, too awkward, too fat, too what ever...
I am getting over it! life is too short!
thanks all!!!!!!!!

I think that the biggest thing right now would be to finally be debt free, or at least not have any more credit card debt.
It would be so much easier to live and to give our son more of what he needs.
We got ourselves into a tough spot because we couldn't afford our rent and so we would put our other expenses (food, gas, utilities) on the credit cards, then when we finally found a place that we could afford we had so much in credit card debt that we can only afford to pay the min payments which now leaves us with no extra money, so we still have to use the credit cards - what a horrible cycle to get stuck in!
The only thing I still strive to achieve is writing something worth publishing. That I am now driven to do. So I work on it daily, mostly right here on gather. I have so much support here, so many encouraging friends, so much help from a couple of terrific people who have agreed to help me. I am blest to be here on gather doing the one thing I have wanted all my life.
Except for one thing, an adult-sized Big Wheels. ;o) That would awesome!
thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!
( My perfect son, is a HUGE desire that has been fulfilled in more was than I can say and continues to do it every day )
I just wanted to stop by since I am finally going through what is now listed as under 4,800 pieces of gather new mail that is sitting in my inbox on here.
With that mentioned I just came across either a mailing from you yourself, or someone else brought this piece to my attention. You or they felt that your creation should be shared with the gather community, which I am very glad that it was passed on to me to view. So I wanted to say Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to publish it here on gather for us to all view. :o)
As well before I leave you I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year... in 2009 :o)
