Memorial Day, originally named Decoration Day, is a time to honor members of the military who died serving their country. In Arlington Cemetery, it is celebrated by placing a flag on each grave. Unfortunately today many take this holiday for granted. Memorial Day is more than a three day weekend; it's a time of remembrance.
Paralyzed Veterans of America invites the Gather community to take part in a challenge. Let's all remember the brave soldiers who died for our country. Through May 31st, we invite the entire community to salute our fallen soldiers with a special remembrance icon. In celebration of Memorial Day (formerly Decoration Day), decorate your Gather profile with a Remember icon.
Simply right click on any of the icons below, save it to your computer and then upload it as the main image in your Gather profile. Or, create your own Remember icon!

Can we get the entire community to salute our fallen soldiers for the next 20 days? It only takes a moment to upload one of these icons to your profile. The family and friends of our soldiers and our veterans will appreciate your support.

This is a great idea.
Thanks so much. Nothing happens down in Jacksonville, FL for Memorial Day. It's just another day off of work and school.
My dad is not a fallen hero, but a hero none the less, and a vet. My prayers to all those that did not come home.
friends in Nam. Those that didn't get killed there and got to come
back home are nothing but empty shells because of all the things
they went through in Nam. They are all addicted to drugs and to
alcohol to keep those horrific memories at bay but it never ends
for them, never.
I have the utmost respect for all our veterans and will support you (them) in every way possible... but I need to keep my icon one which makes it stand out from others.
Thank you.
when I was young I thought it was a holiday becauce of my birthday...........but I grew up Vietnam erupted learned pretty fast..................Ialso lost many dear friends both there and when they came back changed. . .so changed still have many living in the mt.s colorado,
Grand idea. Wouldn't it be completely outstanding, if everyone on gather changed their icon for this?
But I support our Veterans with all my heart and I will be glad to wear an icon saying so on Memorial Day.

God bless all our soldiers, past, present and future...
A simple gesture - and interesting to see how this spreads!
And if I added that icon to my profile it might mean I implicitly support the war, which I won't do.
We appreciate you choosing our group to post to!
