Mother and Child. The Orangutans At Henry Vilas Zoo. (Photo Essay)

Just in time for Mother's Day here's an essay on the Orangutans at the Vilas Zoo. The Orangtan is often one of the favored animals at the zoo, and hopefully with this essay you'll see why. These two are not often this willing to ham it up for us, but that day they were.

Sorry for the motion blurs on a lot of these. The flash made it too dark, and without the flash I risked motion blurs if they moved.

Meet the feisty baby orangutan. Okay, so he's not a tiny baby, but he's still little.


Mom and her baby. She appears concerned over his hand. He's concerned (or maybe it's distracted) over US.


Baby decides to eat some lettuce. Mom decides to eat from baby's legs, lol.


A tender moment. Baby hugs mom.


Mom is still looking over that hand. Baby is still looking over his visitors.


Mom gets a closer look at that hand.

Baby says enough of this! I want to PLAY!


And it looks like mom does not. doesn't it look like he got scolded here?
