I just finished reading Oz Garcia's Fabulous new book and the timing could not have been better. REDESIGNING 50 The No-Plastic-Surgery Guide to 21st-Century Age Defiance was an easy read, in fact, I couldn't put it down. At the age of 52, the realization that I have to work twice as hard to achieve half of the desired results in order to look and feel better has hit me hard. When my own mother turned 50, I thought of her as ancient. Is that how my children see me now? Well, I'm determined to slow down the clock, and this book is going to guide me.
I take care of myself by eating right, being active, sleeping enough and practicing Yoga three times a week. So, why do I feel stressed at times and am tired most of the time? Reading this book has answered many of my questions. From the very first chapter about food and changing our eating habits by incorporating "efficiency foods"to our advantage, all the way to his "Guide to Supplements", Oz Garcia supplies us with a treasure trove of information, and all at our figertips.
Of particular interest to me was the section on Toxins, and how they impair your health and well-being. Oz guides us in following a detoxification regimen or what he calls "Cleaning House", which I plan to follow step by step. Achieving balance in all aspects of one's life should be a priority to all, but particularly to those of us in this age group.
I highly recommend this book, and will use it as a reference for myself. I know that it was written for those of us 50 and older, but I think there is some great information for the young as well. I will let my daughter read it since I know that she will benefit from it as well.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the book and find the information useful. I appreciate your thoughtful, comprehensive review. 50 comes at us quickly and I felt the way you did when I turned 50 -- what is 50 supposed to look and feel like? When I was younger, people who were 50 years or older seemed somewhat ancient to me as well. But we can make 50 years and up a vital, exciting time in our lives. In the book, I want to share with readers that with the right knowledge and practical food plan -- healthy aging is attainable.
I'm happy to hear that the detox section interests you. Detox is paramount -- the detox plan outlined in the book is an effective way to rid your body of gunk that may be effecting your health and slowing you down. I particuarly enjoy regular saunas, as they're relaxing and have wonderful health benefits.
It's great that you want to keep the book in the family and hand it down -- it's never to early to learn how to take care of our health as we're growing older. Thanks for the insightful review, Isabel.
Yours in health, Oz
