Another Woodpecker

Went out for lunch with my friend Wendy yesterday.

Afterwards, we were sitting out behind her place and saw a gorgeous woodpecker!

Not the little one I see around my place all the time... this one was much bigger - like the pileated woodpecker Ross sees here quite often, but I never once have.

This is the pileated woodpecker's tree (in my yard) .... they do an amazing amount of damage, don't they?

 

 

Anyway ...I didn't have my camera with me... but Wendy's husband had managed to get some pictures of the big guy in their front yard, and has given me permission to post them here.

 

I SO wish I'd had my camera to take my own pictures yesterday ... it flew back and forth across the yard... sat on a bird feeder in the next door neighbour's yard for a bit...  it was awesome!

At first I was wishing we would have one here...I love to listen to them, but then I saw the tree. Our trees are still young...I think I'll just look at your pictures.

Great pictures! I have downy and red-bellied woodpeckers around me, but I've never seen a pileated one in person yet.
