Camp Insanity. A treasured week or two each summer in the Adirondacks of New York State!
Many of you have heard my sister Elaine M and I talk about Camp Insanity.

For over 20 years we have a traditional camp time with our children and when you camp with children there is always a bit of insanity around you.

The Insanity started with our camping in 1987 with three moms and 9 children ages 3 to 10, and learning too late that New York State had closed the dumps and started landfill and the BEARS WERE HUNGRY. Hungry BEARS were a pest and visited us nightly looking for food. (and scaring us)

Here are six of our nine kids that year playing in their screen tent. We called this photo Barbi Doll Mayhem.

The tent photos could be titled then and now!

At the end of every camp, we take a traditional photo of all of us behind the fireplace and holding that year's sign. The participants this year were (from the left) Elaine's Jen, and Jessie, Elaine, my son Bill leaning on the sign, me, my Jamie and Elaine's Katie.

Many years we had family and friends join us for a BBQ - Grandpa and Aunts and Uncles were always treaseured guests.

Lots of times the kids would invite friends which increased the Insanity

Elaine and I camped alone for a few years while our kids were in College, University and beginning their careers. Then they started showing up at the river wanting to spend quality time with their Mom and Aunt.

Last year (2007) a bunch showed up and started planning a reunion!

This year, 2008, we are hoping all our adult children will be able to attend for a reunion.

Our husbands never participated for different reasons. Unable to attend they left this experience to the moms and kids and for that, Elaine and I are grateful.
We were able to establish a very special bond with our children and have a fantastic fun time doing it.
Elaine and I also became friends instead of just sisters.
My sister Elaine just published an article about the Sacandaga River and our river art which you can see it RIGHT HERE
Last year I submitted an article about the Sacandaga Campground and if you're interested, click here

What a trip down memory lane! Great article Auntie M.

I'll think of this at our annual Family reunion!
;-)
I've even been known to scream when I come across a slug crossing the hiking trail. Well, they grow them big out here...and even tho they move at a snail's pace...they startle me!

Looks like you have many great memories of Camp Insanity!! It looks like a great place! It is great that you did something like that with your family and made it a tradition!
I love to camp and hope that we can start doing it more often!
Your family is beautiful and you are very blessed!
Those kids are adults now (my chlldren, my cousin's child, my sister's children) but we still hang out for a month every summer. The bonds hold.
