This Saturday, May 10th, a one-day powwow being organized by Natives for Life is scheduled at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville, IL. The powwow will include Indian dancing and drumming at the picnic grounds. On hand will be vendors, food, and other activities.
The event is being presented in support of Long Walk 2, a five-month cross-country trek by Native American activists and their friends to raise awareness about the need to protect sacred sites and global warming. The walkers left Alcatraz Island in San Francisco harbor in February on the 30th anniversary of the original Longest Walk in 1978.
Hours are noon to 7 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
