Peonies actually REQUIRE ants to open their blossoms. Without the ants trekking to move around inside of them, they would never bloom. :-)

Look you have sunshine and warmth year round while the rest of us are freezing under 40 ft of snow. You're just going to have to have the bugs! LOL

"If you look long enough you can see that the ants are carrying food down into the ant hill for the baby ants," I offered. She looked even more intensely, squatting as only a child that age can do.
Then I asked, "So tell me, what kind of food do you think they are bringing down there? Look at them and you'll see tiny pieces of something."

as for the photos...they are beautiful and I've enjoyed looking at them...as a matter of fact I intend on going way back up and looking at them again.
I understand totally any frustration on trying to post a photo essay here on Gather....I've even gone so far as to work on one then get to adding the photos and thrown up my hands and zapped the whole mess.... You did a much better job on that than I ever had...so I feel encouraged and may try again..lol
Jennifer I *still* have one that I tried to do months ago on the first zoo trip in que for editing that I just haven't had the heart to finish or delete.

Yes when it stops being fun and its more work it is time to take a step back and re look at the whole thing. Now that I am not worrying about getting the Cash Option I am having alot more fun.

Zoom, macro, super macro, and distance from the object you are shooting can be a bit touchy....I say shoot the shots from where you are most comfortable with your camera and what it captures :) So much can be done after the fact on your computer that it is not worth worrying about anyway ;)
